Recently I was introduced to the cast recording of Tori Amos' The Light Princess and I am LOVING it! I was curious if anybody had seen it while it was playing in West End and what their thoughts on the show were.

We saw it. We loved it.  Here's the discussion - with my comments - from the West End board:  https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.php?thread=1064972&page=1

and here was the official trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3JlmPLG26k  The people in black are acrobats who manipulated/supported/moved Rosalie Craig through much of the show when she wasn't on wires.

Saw the show at the National Theatre.  Very much enjoyed the show.  Gorgeous production.

I loved a lot of the choral music and it looked beautiful, but I found it all a bit tedious and pretentious ultimately. Having TLP strapped to numerous (hot!) guys in black as they clambered all over the set to simulate flight was original but once you've seen it, you've seen it. The album sounds great but I find myself fast forwarding though some of the solos and duets (the exhausting Act 2 belt off between the King and the Princess' friend is particularly taxing on the ears Did anybody see The Light Princess?? in a way I wish I had been able to in the theatre.

all in all, for me it felt like a big glossy colourful gift box but with nothing inside; having said that the friends I went with adored it so what do I know hahaha

Does anybody think that this will come to Broadway?

FYI for XM Radio subscribers...

Broadway Names with Julie James: Tori Amos and Sam Adamson

Eight-time Grammy Nominated Alt/Rock artist Tori Amos has created a new musical, The Light Princess, which ran at London’s National Theater in 2013, and now has a brand new original cast recording! Tori comes to SiriusXM On Broadway with book writer and co-lyricist Sam Adamson to reveal the fairy tale and its metaphors that relate to audiences today, the journey of its creation, and the incredible stagecraft involved for a Princess who has no gravity. And you’ll hear Tori & Sam set up brand new songs from the album, featuring Rosalie Craig, who won the Evening Standard Award for Best Performance in a Musical. Will the show be coming to Broadway? Tune-in and find out!

The entire show was very Tori Amos. Nice at parts and downright peculiar at others,

Funny because having never seen it staged and only hearing it, I can't help but admire just how layered and intricate the music and lyrics are. I definitely hear spots where, if it comes to Broadway, they could--and should--definitely make some edits. I'm admittedly a big Amos fan and I know it's not perfect, but I've seen so many lackluster shows over the years and I think TLP is strong enough to deserve a shot to succeed.

It was very enjoyable in the theatre in London but the musical score is quite challenging in relation to the relatively straight forward (dare I say almost teen-orientated) drama, so despite its many virtues, I think it might struggle with another major outing.

Why don't you go? Why don't you leave Manderley? He doesn't need you... he's got his memories. He doesn't love you, he wants to be alone again with her. You've nothing to stay for. You've nothing to live for really, have you?
