Did anyone see Ruthie in Chicago.

Hey everyone,

I'll be in London next weekend and thought I might pay Chicago a visit (at least the 20th in London since 1997). Are there any reviews ? Is Ruthie up to it as she left me a bitter taste when she came back in 2003 as Velma.
I saw Bonnie Langford playing Roxie in NYC in October and felt the show was so fresh and loved it. I would love to experience that feeling again.

I saw Ruthie in her first week back. It was strange to finally see her in the role after hearing the CD for years! She's very good, but not as much energy on the cd (obviously!) Velma (Terra C. Someone) is brillaint, Amos was brilliant, and the ensemble were on very very fine form (last time I saw it the ensemble were very weak!). The only weak link for me is Ian Kelsey as Billy Flynn.

But, back to the original point, ruthie looked and sounded very good!

I am not a fan of Chicago but would go back to see Ruth, so got a date in the next month.

This reminds of seeing the show when it just opened- Ruthie looked totally intimidated by Ute (not surprisingly, the woman is superhuman).

Seeing her later, after Ute had left, she seemed so much more confident.

I wanted to see Bonnie during Ruthie's off days over the holidays, but she was only on during a premium ticket price week and I wasn't about to pay £45 for a discounted ticket to show I'm only meh about, no matter how much I love La Langford.

Bonnie was great when I saw her back in October in NYC.

Two points of interest for 'Chicago' fans:

The utter professionalism of Ms Bonnie Langford will be seen in the West End again for 9 weeks from around November time (maybe she's finally realized she's too old for panto, tho they are doing their best to make do one more this year again!)

Ruthie Henshall is putting together a full evenings concert that will feature dancers, singers and full orchestra that will hopefully have a West End home later in 2010.

Alexis Owen Hobbs is the understudy - she appeared as Roxie at West End Live in 2009 - there are some clips on YouTube. Though I've never seen her Roxie, she's an excellent performer. (I didn't know Ruthie had any dates booked off?)

I wanted to see Bonnie in the show this year, but I'd already booked for Ruthie and didn't really feel like seeing it twice in as many weeks.

Yeah she has concerts on 30th Jan. Pissed off as she was only reason I booked to see it again, but these were announced after I booked. Dont really have any interest in seeing it again, at least I got half price tickets

I'm planning on going in February just before she leaves. Slightly off topic, but GILT are only selling tickets up to February 12th. Will they be releasing more for after the 12th as they have some good Chicago deals?

Was her stint at the Adelphi in '99 her last appearance in Chicago?

I'm there if she goes back as Mama. (Or Roxie, or Velma, or Billy, or Amos... )

She did it in Las Vegas either just before London just after, Im pretty sure it was before London.
She then did it on Broadway again!

Valarie Pettiford- what a fantastic person and performer! I have a mini disc of one of her performances with Maria Friedman- what ever happened to MiniDiscs??? I have the discs but no longer a player!
