I saw it twice. Once before 9/11 with Dick Cavett, and once after 9/11 with Gilbert Godfried. The show closed after 9/11, then reopened a few weeks after with a different guest narrator each week.
This was a theatre experience unlike any other, with lots of improv. For instance, there was a family with two young teen girls sitting in the first row right next to the "Toucha Toucha Touch Me" scene would take place, and Dick Cavett gave them a heads up "your girls are about to grow up very quickly". The girls covered up their eyes with their hands and giggled their way through it, it was very cute.
And with Gilbert Godfried, well what can I say? It was just Gilbert being Gilbert, a weird combination with Rocky Horror.
There was the usual audience participation, with a group to the sides of the stage shouting out the shout outs, and in The Time Warp, the phantoms would come out into the audience, and one of them (Kevin Cahoon) picked my wife out as his dance partner.

"He'd done a great stint as one of the replacements for Alan Cumming in the Cabaret revival.
That came after Rocky Horror. And after Tick Tick Boom. "
Actually Rocky Horror was the big breakthrough for Raul as far as NYC/Broadway goes.

Posted: 1/11/10 at 11:35pmNo. Broadway debuts don't count if the character is wearing a codpiece. It's in Article 7 section B in the Rules and Regulations of IBDB.com.

Posted: 1/12/10 at 9:47amEsparza should have known that Rocky never really belongs to its performers. Put it on its own two feet without a crazy and interactive audience, and it's really not much of a show. Performing Rocky interactively is the closest thing America has to a panto, and the closest thing ANYONE has to the performances at the old Globe Theater in Shakespeare's time.

I'm not ashamed to admit I saw this 9 times during its run. It was fun and the perfect form of escapism. I remember the very first time I saw the show I was sitting in the front row and Jonathan Sharp LICKED my cheek. I almost died. Never did get to see Joan Jett, but from what I hear, I didn't miss much.
As for the fans, most of the times I saw the show, people were pretty respectful. It did get kinda crazy later in the run, though. Pity.
Oh Sebastian. As a 16 gay boi (at the time), I found his performance very...um...uplifting.
