I LOVED Mazzie's performance in next to normal, more so than Bernadette in Night Music - does anyone know if they re-recorded next to normal with her?
I don't know how Mazzie could be involved with N2N in the future, but I hope she isn't finished with the role (New Jason/Mazzie duet CD PLS? :P)

Well she IS a 3 time Tony nominated Broadway veteran.
So CZJ's Tony winning performance really isn't archived at all?

Posted: 1/13/11 at 12:34amI doubt this will happen, but I'm praying n2n gets filmed for their final performance. Marin Mazzie is unbelievable as Diana.

Posted: 1/13/11 at 1:14amIn an interview on one of the theatre sites there was an interview with Tom Kitt and he said that no one has ever contacted them about filming a performance (obviously not including the Lincoln Center Archive already filmed of the original cast). I'm surprised NO ONE has tried to. As excited as I am for the prospect of a next to normal movie, I just think it will always work best on the stage, its too bad that it wont be preserved that way. I suppose the movie is really inevitable though, even if it is in its preliminary stages. Has any show that won a pulitzer prize not been made into a movie down the road? i really can't think of any.

If by "shows," we mean musicals, also Of Thee I Sing. It did get a TV production 40 years later (which is more than Fiorello! got), but no movie.
Of course, plenty of plays that won the Pulitzer were never filmed. A surprisingly large percentage were filmed (especially if we count TV movies), but still a lot weren't.

For those curious ones, Zeta-Jones & Lansbury/Peters & Stritch in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC and Mazzie in NEXT TO NORMAL have all been preserved nicely on both audio AND video. Not 'officially' but it's nice to know their performances were not lost to just audience's memories.

Posted: 1/16/11 at 10:52amI've seen Mazzie's and Peters/Stritch's. I'm just hoping that the final performance for N2N gets a recording also, but if not, at least we have one of Mazzie/Jason's first performance.
