Posted on another board that it is closing July 6th. Am I the only one who didn't know this?
It was posted on the headlines here this morning.
Or maybe I saw it on playbill.com.
Can't remember, but it was just announced today.
I knew it as well.
It was always a limited run, but I swear I've never seen as much (digital) ink spilled about a scheduled closing notice. You can't avoid it! (
It was always billed as a limited engagement and was always on sale through 7/6. If the show became a hit, or if it got a Tony nod, perhaps it could have lived on longer.
The producers were smart to put out a press release to clarify that it is indeed closing. It could give it a little box office push before the production terminates.

I asked a few weeks ago at the box office if there was a closing date, and the lady working barked at me "NO!" and huffed and turned away. Like wtf is that about? Isn't that an ok question to ask when you are about to buy a ticket? I left without buying one since she obviously wasn't going to help.

She thought you were a hata?
Yes, we knew, we saw Isherwood crying in Shubert Alley.
That's a good one.
Sad I'll miss this. Shows like this prove to me that celebs don't drive every production on Broadway. It's so weird. This show has a lot of famous people in it yet can't play more than 5 months. Yet something like Cinderella can't survive without some cashable name. It's crazy.
RippedMan, if you look at it's box office results, it's doing great, consistently playing to 90%+ filled houses and more importantly consistently making around 85% of its gross potential since opening. For anything other than the half dozen megahits, that's pretty damn good and many other shows would love to be in their position. I suspect the closing is more to do with 4 very busy actors who could not make a commitment to stay longer than July than a lack of performance at the box office.
Have seats been better through rush or TDF?

Can speak to TDF, but I went to see if there were any rush tickets left when I got into town around 12:30 or so on Friday (there were). My seat was third row, far right - specific seat info escapes me but I can check my ticket if you want. It was partial view, but wasn't partial at all. Could see everything just fine, with the exception of Michael C. Hall for maybe two lines.
