Difference between "soundtrack" and "cast recording"

I just wanted to state this because it seems many people are getting these 2 confused!

The difference is:

A "soundtrack" is from a movie therefore a movie soundtrack.

But a "cast recording" is the cast of whatever show singing and recording it to make a CD so please don't say "I have the Brooklyn soundtrack" say "I have the Brooklyn cast recording"

Also if you have the OBC or OLC then it because "I have the original Brooklyn cast recording"

An easy way to remember this is that in movies, the vocals are pre-recorded on a track and then when filming, the actors lip synch to the pre-recorded soundtrack.

(Yeah, I know that Liza messed up the meaning of this when she performed on Broadway, but for the most part it still applies).

I don't see how hard this is, soundtrack is a track of sound, get it?! I mean it's such an ignorant mistake. If they took 2 seconds to think about it, they wouldn't get it wrong.

Most people who say 'soundtrack' here get corrected almost instantly.
