Differences in "Sondheim On Music" editions?
#1Differences in "Sondheim On Music" editions?

I was at a bookstore earlier today and I saw the latest paperback edition of "Sondheim On Music" by Mark Horowitz. I was curious about whether anyone actually knew the differences between this latest paperback edition, the 2002 edition, and any other editions that have come before it. I hesitated on buying the book because I wanted to get something that was the most comprehensive and it looked as if this newer edition was a scaled down version of essentials, according to the book description. Any input?

The new edition is called the "less is more edition" so it's definitely truncated. According, to an Amazon review, the only deleted material is the huge song list and discography.

#3Differences in "Sondheim On Music" editions?
Posted: 6/17/19 at 12:39amI had rented the previous version from the library years ago and purchased the "Less Is More" edition about a month ago. The only new additions are an introduction by Horowitz (discussing how and when the interviews occurred, explanations for why he covered what he did, etc) and a short "Postlude" interview Horowitz did with Sondheim at one of Anthony de Mare's Liaisons concerts in 2013. It is only a few pages and talks about classical influences and the like. Nothing really about his shows. The above poster is correct in that the discography and song list are the only things that have been removed. This information is readily accessible (and updated) online, so I figured this wasn't a huge loss.
