DRS :) *Loved* it. Plus, don't you want to see the guy who's going to win a tony? re: Dilemma - DRS or Spamalot???

I am surprised at how many of you have chosen DRS over Spamalot; I thought Spamalot was THE show to see this year on broadway. Don't know how I got that impression... But thank you all so much for the advice. I'll definitely be writing reviews once I've seen the shows (I apologise in advance if they bore you!)

my thoughts are most people here prefer drs... spamalot is definitely a tourist show... it has 3 household acting names (curry, azaria, pierce)... most people know monty python and are just looking to be entertained... no doubt lithgow and gleason (to some extent) have a good effect, as well as the movie for drs. but it's magnified for spamalot i believe... and in my opinion drs works better on stage and has a better score. i think most "broadway people" (like on this board) think that when comparing the two.

I still laugh when I think of Sara Gettelfinger.

sara g.... i don't know how to express my thoughts on her. she was very funny. but then we got to her song... there's just way too much dancing and she's trying to belt too high. she was out of breath the whole time due to the dancing. she was straining for notes because she was doing high kicks at the same time. but she's much much more enjoyable on the recording because obviously she wasn't dancing!

She was hysterical!
The song itself is hysterical, but she was great!

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

apdarcey, I completely agree on sara. I haven't yet heard the CD (I don't live in NYC!), but I was quite surprised to see her quite so out of breath during the dance. Well, I guess not so surprised with all the dancing. She had too much to do at once. And the reach for the high notes was painful. Glad to hear all is well on the CD! Ruprecht had Norbie out of breath a little in places, but Lithgow could cover with his lines, so it was no biggie...

*goes back to being a cheerleader for DRS* :)

Maybe Ya'll saw her on an off night. I saw her twice, and she was great, hitting the notes, both times I saw her.

I think the squeals and lack of breath in Oklahoma makes me enjoy it even more. It's my least favorite song in the show, but I still love it. I think Sara g. did a great job with it.

I have to agree with apdarcy entirely on the whole DRS vs Spamalot thing.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

oh yeah. totally thought the show was wicked fun overall... but i wanted to pull jerry mitchell aside and be like, let sara be the star of this number. let them dance behind her. don't make her stretch for stuff and give her too much. it was sad as an audience member to know what it could have been and it just wasn't because of a bad choice by the production team.

justice, i've heard several accounts that sara's usual performance is a stretch vocally and she is constantly gasping for breath (not due to her abilities... simply due to her choreography)

Well, I can say that she was panting in between places...as I was sitting dead center, front row...but, personally, I don't think it hurt her performance. As for her, she's only on in that one number, and getting paid lots of bucks to do it, so why not overwork her?
I understand what you're saying, though. Too bad she doesn't have a Tony nod.

tony nod's aren't out yet. she could (she won't)... overworking her in one number because that's the only one she is in is complete bs... they should be going for the best overall product.

The first two times I saw DRS, she sang the songs perfectly while squealing and dancing but the last time I went she seemed to be really out of breath. It's nice to hear her sing it so clearly on the cast album. I do wish she had more to do in the show cuz she's really talented.

You couldn't pay me enough to see Spamalot again. I would suggest DRS any day.

However, that's just me... lots of people like Spamalot. (I don't understand it, but they do... re: Dilemma - DRS or Spamalot??? )

And I've seen Spamalot 6 times and laughed so hard each time - Nothing like it. It's way funny. Okay way, way funny and no I'm not a Python Freak. So I guess if you want to laugh go see SPAMALOT but I think the other one needs the business more. So give them some change. :)
