On for 2010...

Not sure if its UK Tour or West End but the show will land in the UK 2010.

Lets hope Jonathan Pryce comes onboard.

LOVED this show when I saw it in New York. Hope it does eventually get a staging over here.

The rights have been picked up by a producing house. They are discussing UK Tour or direct West End. I think its all very up in the air with casting, backing and houses. Usual things really.

I loved this show on Broadway and thought it had a much more UK appeal rather than American.

Terrific show, but would be better without Jonathan Pryce. Tony Sheldon anyone?

re: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels... UK

I thought he opposite to you guys, I think it would appeal less to a UK audience.
The evening just didn't light up for me in New York as much as I love Mr Lithgow.

Maybe it will just be a tour and not get to London the way it seems to have gone with 'The Wedding Singer'

I have no idea whether it will appeal to a British audience more than American. All I know is that I adored it - and I did not like the movie (mainly coz I can't stand Steve Martin). The score is just so stunning!

Im going to go back to the Cd, I do remember some good numbers in there.
I, like you Bob, hated the movie as I too hate Steve Martin. Maybe that hindered my enjoyment of the stage show'

re: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels... UK

I think the score is good, and it had a great cast on broadway. Think it could do well with a decent investment and a good cast. Think the guy who used to be in Buffy teh Vampire Slayer (name escapes me) would be a good choice.

I think a tour would be a safer choice, although i hope it gets a better production than The Wedding Singer!!

I loved this show on Broadway, and John Lithgow owned the audience! It was a night of bliss. Bring it on!

Bob does his usual and loves a show no one else likes, love you really and your input is great. x

For me I cannot comment did not see the show or heard the music.

I find myself agreeing with Bob's opinions more often than not. Sure, we don't agree on everything, but he generally has aces taste, and even when we don't agree, he at least has sensible-sounding reasons for not liking things. :)

As for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, I didn't really like the film either. I found the humour too broad to sit comfortably in a non-musical film. By giving these things song and dance routines, it plays up the ridiculousness and just makes it funny rather than embarrassing. I love the show, and I think David Yazbek is probably the funniest musical theatre composer and lyricist working today. :)

re: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels... UK

Personally, I found it to be a mediocre show based on a mediocre film. Joanna Gleason made the most of her thankless role in which she was woefully underused. Sherie Rene Scott was the one true shining talent in the cast as far as I was concerned. Lithgow basically repeated his (curiously) Tony-winning performance from Sweet Smell of Success while Butz chewed all the scenery in sight. The score had a couple of nice moments along with some real lows (Great Big Stuff and All About Ruprecht are numbers I particularly would not like to revisit) trying to cash in on the popular vulgarity of Mel Brooks' The Producers, but with less wit and more adolescence. My partner and I left feeling quite disappointed. I much preferred Yazbek's more diverse, clever and charming score to The Full Monty.

I got the vulgarity, I just felt it was excessive at times and the heavy-handedness of it became rather clunky in a way that didn't fit well into the score or staging.

Though I loved Terrence McNally's book for The Full Monty, I was not so keen on the score. I much preferred Yazbeck's score for DRS.

LOL - Hell, I'm a critic. Of course, I disagree with everyone else!

Seriously though - it does seem that quite a few people agree with me regarding DRS.

re: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels... UK

I loved DRS when I saw the original Broadway cast, I must get the cast album when I'm in NY next month. I especially liked the audacity of any songwriters who could come up with a number called 'Oklahoma?'

As much as I disliked his performance in "The Producers" I think Lee Evans would be a great Freddy/Ruprecht.
