I have to ask: How is it that there are so many people who like Dirty Rotten Scoundrels? I thought that it was just about the worst thing that I have ever seen when I saw it in March. The music was awful, and I could not find a single redeeming quality in the rest of the show (even Butz was weighed down by this horrible material). Are there others who feel the same way. And for those of you who like it, what is it about the show that you find enjoyable?

What did I like about the show? Well, hadn't seen the film (and I can be kind of slow on th uptake), so the twist was surprising and enjoyable. But the main reason I enjoyed it was because I never laughed to hard in my entire life. And I'm not sure there will be anything in the future that can rival the amount of the laughter that show got out of me. If there was enough room, I would have fallen out of my chair and started rolling on the floor with laughter.

It's probably not as funny to other people. I've been known to have an odd sense of humor.

well everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and im not going to bite your head off like some people will on this web site, for hating it, but personally, i love DRS. i thought the music was fantastic, it was extremely hysterical, john lithgow is a comic genius. for me, and for many others, it doesnt get any better than norbert singing great big stuff. your question is so broad i dont really know how to answer it more than that. i guess its a matter of taste. like, i went to spamalot the other day, and for the most part really enjoyed it, while the person i went with didnt care for it as much. comedy is delicate in terms of the audience you present it to. some love it some hate it

Hmm. I found the book funny, the lyrics witty, the music charming. The performances were the most scathingly brilliant I can remember in a long time. BUT I also hate loathe & despise Ave. Q. To each his own. ( Bet u lOOOOOVED Q!)

I have to agree with everything said so far. The cast is extremely talented, it is hysterical, great book, very funny, and a great score.

the design is also well done, i love the look of the show, it is so clever and norbert going "oh my god the whole thing turns" was perfect! design can make or break a show

Oh chap, I'm totally with you. I remember sitting there during the whole opening sequence thinking "What the hell IS this?"

But there are those who enjoyed it. Power to them. They're probably happier people.

I have to say I'm in the group of people who loved it. It was very different then many musicals, it was witty, and I loved the farce. I'll be honest that I don't know if two other actors could acheive the same chemistry, but it was great.

thats probably my only criticism of the show, eileen, is that (although i saw complete obc) im not sure it would be the same without john and norbert. its problematic when a role depends on it's actor because its not likely to last. but as is the chemistry those three have is fantastic

It will be really hard for the show when Norbert leaves. Just like Mille died when Sutton finally left.

I love DRS... I dont know how you could possibly dislike this show. Its certainly a broader comedy than the monty python sketch parading around as a musical. I loved everything about this show... def one of my favorites. The music is fun and energetic, the performances are great, the book is fast paced and witty... whats not to like?

ooo and am I the only one who thinks Matt Caplan could make a decent freddy in a couple years? I mean hes got the smartass thing down... i just think he could be good. and I am all for Kelsey Grammer as lawrence!!!

Kelsey grammer would be amazing...I think David hyde Pierce could be a great Andre as long as we're casting the Frasier cast...

i dont know if it will collapse after john and norbert leave... as long as they keep the great ad campaigns going... and it wouldnt hurt to keep a relatively familiar name in at least one of the roles. Even without all the tonys the show is still doing really well based on word of mouth... so as long as the replacements are good then they should be fine. (they should do what wicked did... and have them spread out their leaving... overlap the new people in rather than have an all new cast).

Blu Cat... i am also intrigued at brining Brian Stokes Mitchell back as Lawrence. He had played the part at some of the workshops before Lithgow was even cast. I think he would also be amazing.

They'll have to put names in there or I think it will really suffer. Right now it has a great celebrity cast which has drawn a lot of attention to the show, but without that, people will lose interest. It's so Norbert's show...he was the only part of the show I really liked. For me, he carried it.

i see what your saying pinguin... but i think that they will be able to keep names in at least one of the parts. The part of lawrence is easier cuz he doesnt even have to be an incredible singer... and the people mentioned above could all bring in an audience. (Kelsey Grammer, DHP, Brian Stokes Mitchell, etc.)

funny, good cast, great book, light, and reminds me of old Broadway........ie when there didn't have to always be a message, and things were fun.

And no, I am not saying there is anything wrong with having a message and being serious.....just now and then I just want to see something fun.
And besides...JOANNA is in it, nuff said!

The music is great - I am a big fan of Yazbek. It's not as good as The Full Monty, but then again, it's very different.

I honestly don't see what there is not to like, but every one is entitled to his own opinion.

Producers survivied...And DRS and Producers are similar if only in the fact that they're both musical comedies with well known casts
