I didn't notice them playing any of the new song throughout the rest of the show. It's good, but i still prefer 'Giving Them What They Want'. It just seems to set the tone so wonderfully. However, this new song worked really well for Tom Hewitt, who is the tour Lawrence. So, we'll see how it goes.
The sets are a bit scaled down with the glitz, the balcony that Muriel keeps appearing on after her trysts isn't elevated above anymore. It's still good-looking though.
And as for the stage-door, Norbert was an absolute sweetheart. There were about fourteen of us waiting by the signs that read 'stage door', and he slipped out another, started to walk across the street, then looked back and saw all of us there, and came back to sign and take pictures.
THAT is weird. I never had a major issue with "Give Them..". Yeah, it wasn't the strongest opening number ever, but it set up Lawrence's character pretty well. Hmmmm. Now I'm VERY curious about "The Only Game in Town"...

So is a turntable used on the tour?
Didn't want to start a new thread for the tour, so I'm posting my comments on the tour here...
The show is amazing. The tour is off to a great start... the cast is all top notch. Yes, the sets have been scaled back. They do use a turntable, but it's not a double turntable like it is on Broadway. They also do not have the two-story balconies that come on and off... those scenes happen at stage level now.
Tom Hewitt is excellent. And even though I did miss Sheri, Greg and Joanna, the actors playing the parts are all amazing. Of course, Norbert is amazing. The man is a freak... in a good way. There are few words to describe his performance. I did miss the part when he watches the dinner date from the balcony. The ensemble is very strong. Honestly, other than the beginning and scaled back set, this show is pretty much the same show I saw on Broadway, which is not always the case with tours.
Actually, the part where he watches the date dinner from the box seats was cut from the Broadway production too. When I went back to see the show in mid-July having seen it a year earlier, I noticed that switch right away.

Really? That was quite funny. The scene seems empty now... at least to me.
I was shocked to open my program last night and see a new song. It's quite bland, I think. Perhaps because I'm used to the original.
I must be way behind...Norbert is officially doing the tour? I remember a while back he was...then wasn't...now he is?
Oh I hope he is by the time it roles into Cincy!

Yeah, when the opening started, I thought "wow, this doesn't seem funny at all"
I actually thought it was boring. But then Norbert's entrance came and it suddenly became hillarious.
That song was actually written for the original production. Brian Strokes Mitchell was intended for the lead role and when he was not casted in it John Lithgow was. John could not sustain that song so they changed it for him. They were going to change it for Jonathan Pryce for his run of the show since he had the voice but they failed to becuase they felt he wasnt going to be in the show for a long enough period.
Brian wasnt casted becuase he wasnt the center of attention since the show is all about norbert and sherrie. Those two were casted from the very begining since they were in the Last Five Years together.

As far as the song, I don't know where in the hell you got your information.

I welcome the new song. The opening number and scene of the show has always been very week and never quite worked. Hopefully they made it better...
