I know there have been lots of posts on here about what Disney's next show should be. I think this answers it. My husband was reading one of his magazines and there was a news article about Disney registering the domain name piratesonbroadway.com.
It still could mean nothing and they are holding it just in case. But it would make sense considering the popularity of the series.
Has anyone else heard anything or have any thoughts about it?
I'm just gonna say it even though I think it's an awful idea -
I think Taymor could do something cool with that.
Thanks Lizzie. The article my husband read only mentioned priates but it looks like they have a TON of shows registered in case they want to move forward.
Hasn't Father of the Bride been rumored to be in the works for years now? I remember seeing it on Playbill's "coming soon" section about 3 years ago. I think it's still there!
I was literally JUST thinking about how they would do Pirates on Broadway yesterday...

Doesn't it cost like ten dollars a year to register a domain name?
Wouldn't put too much into it. Domains like that get registered all the time.
Fox registered x-menfirstclassmovie.com back in 2006, yet the film didn't go into development until last year.

Just to keep things into perspective and context, because admittedly it's not all that clear, that post was from May of 2010.
It came about just a couple of days after Disney Theatrical admitted they were working on a staged adaptation of Dumbo and subsequently Newsies.
It was also rumored that they had their hands in about 30 or so projects at the time. These are presumably some of them.
Now of course it doesn't mean that they'll all come to fruition, nor is it even clear what Pirates means (unless Disney has said something since), all we know is what's been put forth which is, as the article mentions, the active development of Father of the Bride and Flamingo Kid and that Calendar Girls, Citizen Ruth and Sister Act had already been developed (although in the case of the latter, the sole domain name is for a touring production).
Of course we also know that Aladdin and Newsies panned out since they'll both be debuting this year.
And since Disney sold of Miramax and most of its library and killed Yellow Submarine, those aren't likely to ever happen now.
We NEED more Pirates on Broadway!
A theatre designed to look like a pirate ship would be amazing.
I agree with Jordan. Julie should totally do it...Except I could do without a silly pirate mask.

Disney buys a lot of domains in bulk as to cover their bases. Whether or not they choose to use any of the registered domains for anything has remained to be seen.

If I were Disney, I would call up Julie right now.
She would be fantastic. A disney reunion with Taymor!! Ahhh I will dream of this.
Taymor works better with Disney because she can still work her magic, but Disney knows where to draw the line and reign her in a little.
