I'm all for Emily Blunt in the role! And they will write and tailor songs for her. I'm glad they're going back to the books for more stories. I hope that have that crazy lady who breaks her fingers off and feeds them like candy to the kids. Then they grow back.

^I hope Julie Andrews plays her, because that role "Mrs Corry" really gets to bond with Mary, and there's this really magical part where they paint stars onto the sky, and if Julie Andrews gets to do that with the new Mary, then I would be so pleased!

To all of you who have industry knowledge, can you let us know if they have already confirmed an actress? Are they still looking? Some of you said Amy Adams and Emily Blunt are attached. I don't know who's right or wrong....Amy Adams is my personal choice. Anne Hathaway would be a good Mary Poppins too. I'm surprised she's not on the casting radar. Do you know when Disney will make the official announcement?

Let's get Imelda Staunton in as one of the housekeepers please! :)
As the books are perennial favorite of mine I can't wait to see what the choose to do. I wonder if they will select one of the other arrival methods for Mary to come back to Cherry Tree Lane. (I personally liked her arrival by popping out of a firework.) I doubt that they will use any of the altered plot given over to the stage show but more likely will construct a new series of adventures from books 2-7. I have great hopes for.. maybe it's too soon.
I thought MARY POPPINS was already a LIVE ACTION movie when it opened in 1964?...no?...:)

I have already addressed this in multiple threads. It will be EB, despite what other "insiders" claim to know or heard.

LH, I don't doubt that you may be totally correct. I'm pro EB in the role, so I hope you are. But what I will say is, and I don't know your source, if it's a locked decision for EB, some of Amy Adams' camp have reason to think otherwise. That's all I know. They could be wrong, of course. And perhaps they're attempting to change minds; I can't speculate on that. I'm sure your source gives you confidence that you're correct-- my source doesn't indicate that Amy Adams is attached, but rather is in discussions and did a very recent screen test. This doesn't discount that you may be correct, but it's at the very least interesting that there's another layer at work. And who knows, maybe she's going in for Mrs. Banks. Or maybe she's going in for Mary Poppins but they're secretly going to offer her Mrs. Banks lol, and I'm not getting this from her directly, as she and I don't know one another. But my source is a closely related party to this, C team let's call them. Anyway, that's all I know. I don't doubt you may know more.
As long as they keep Lea Michele far, far, away from this I'll be willing to give it a shot.

I received this weird message from Liza's Headband.
"I work for Disney. I'm not sure who your "sources" are but I can confirm 100% that Emily is attached to this project. All of this nonsense about Amy and Anne are unsubstantiated rumors."
Are you a delusional Emily Blunt stan? Maybe you are her husband. If you work for Disney, you would not be sending PMs to other members informing them your workplace. It's obvious you are a troll.
I can tell you Mary Poppins has not been cast yet. If you do not believe this, you can go back ask Bob Iger.

"I have insider knowledge."
"But I can't tell you."
"But trust me!"
"SERIOUSLY I'M RIGHT."
"WHY R U ALL DOUBTING ME?????"
I prefer EB because she does look a little like Julie Andrews and she could possibly pull off older Mary Poppins.
But, why not Victoria Summers: the woman who played Julie Andrews in Saving Mr. Banks?
Bless the lucky soul who HASN'T received a weird creepy message from Liza's Headband.

Preach.
The film version of Mary Poppins IS my childhood, so I wasn't very happy about this news.
But when I read on this board someone suggesting Tom Hiddleston as Bert, and another suggesting Michelle Dockery as Mary, now I CANNOT UNSEE IT.
I would see THAT movie in a heartbeat.
(forgive me, Dame Julie!!)

Probably because her uncredited, essentially background work is hardly enough to qualify her to carry a movie of this size?

I have been on a real Poppins kick recently and re-read some of the older books it lends itself well to the screen but having taken into consideration how good Julie Andrews was at acting, singing and dancing it's going to take a capable actress for the part, Bert too although they should cast a British actor this time in my opinion.
