I had the VHS growing up and always thought it was a lovely, made for tv family film. The only sore spot is Drew Carrey. I found the rest of the cast to be exceptional, and the score to be fun.
Tbh I have no snarky comments because I always took it at face value as a pleasant 90 minutes of family entertainment. I'll have to pull it up on Youtube.

Had it worked out as planned starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke it might have been a bit more charming.

Brent Spiner's patter song is absolutely fantastic. It's incredibly well-written, and Brent Spiner goes all out.

Holy smokes that would have been something!
Not to hijack the thread but I'd love to see the National Theatre's PINOCCHIO cross the pond. Perhaps a run at the New Victory or even a limited engagement at the Vivian Beaumont? From the photos I saw I imagine it would play beautifully in that space.

Drew Carey walked so James Corden could run as "the lovable schlubby guy who loves singing and dancing." Corden is much more technically proficient, but Carey had more humanity and charm; I'll always fondly remember his messy, chaotic and random musical numbers on The Drew Carey Show.

I directed and choreographed a children’s theatre production of the stage show while simultaneously directing a production of The Pillowman. The girl who played Pinocchio was also in The Pillowman as the little Jesus girl. I remember staging I have no strings and her crucifixion on the same day. The stage show is called My Son, Pinocchio a part of MTI’s Broadway Junior collection.
Also, I love seeing Octavia Spencer in a glorified featured extra role before becoming an A-List movie star. I also recently saw her in a small role on Wizards of Waverly Place when I was babysitting my nieces. I’m thinking that was probably right before filming The Help… or at least before the movie was released and winning the Oscar.
