Do we want to see Boe in Miz?

Alfie Boe and Cameron Mackintosh have both hinted at the possibility of the opera singer playing the role of Jean Valjean in the West-End production of Les Misérables next year, following his performance in the 25th Anniversary Concert at the 02 arena last Sunday.

Would we want to see him in the West-End production? Thoughts?

I really enjoyed his performance in the concert, but I don't know if his acting is up to standard to play the role in the actual production...

Yes.

He did play the role at Queens for a couple of weeks prior to the O2 concert. I didn't get to see him but the word I've heard about his performance then was positive.

I would be interested to see him. Most people seem impressed by how he did at the concert, even if his lack of acting experience showed to hard-core fans. However, the best way for him to gain that acting experience would be to do the part properly for more than a couple of weeks.

My biggest concern would be that someone from an opera background, not used to singing eight shows a week, might forget to sing as if they've got another seven shows to do, but that's for him and his vocal coach to work on. I'd love to see what he'd be like after he'd had the chance to settle in.

Incidentally, I often got the impression that the reason JOJ was off so much in the last year was because he tried ot push it too hard some times.

Since when do opera singers not sing eight shows a week? Haha.

On the JOJ note, I agree - though I was fortunate enough to see him each time I saw the production. I do think touring with a show puts a whole new level of strain on the body and the voice than just havinmg a static run, say in the West-End.

Opera singers usually don't sing 8 shows a week because of the way they are done in rep.

Yes! is my short answer.

I have no doubt he could handle it vocally obviously and the demands of 8 shows a week, he's also got the acting 'chops' for it imho.

I'd go and see him-like Kec I wasn't able to catch him for the short run this time.

Who says opera singers cant act?
Overact, certainly, but they sure can act.
Mr Boe did 'Kismet' with ENO don't forget, to great critical acclaim.

He is one hell of a handsome guy

I just didn't feel he acted at all in Les Mis...it was either happy or sad...

Besides which, he doesn't look that handsome in his Valjean get up Do we want to see Boe in Miz?

I do. I actually want to see him again as I was lucky to see him during his week at the Queens theatre and loved him.
Yes his acting was occasionally a bit weak (cannot say how he came across at the concert as I didn't see that) but he maybe just lacked routine. Am sure with a few more shows under his belt he would have been even more amazing.

He is certainly a handsome guy! Having seen him perform with the WNO I thought his acting was great-not too overdone which is the style in most opera performances. I agree that given a chance to really settle into the role he'd be excellent.

(can't comment on either les miz performance as I didn't see either)
