Do you forgive performers who crack onstage?

Posted: 8/7/05 at 10:28amJust wondering? Do you think of it as human nature, or does that automatically make you think they are less of a performer and therefore bring down the quality of the show?

Posted: 8/7/05 at 10:40amIt isn't something they can help--they can warm up for 2 hours and crack, it's all a matter of circumstance.

I can't say it's fine that I crack onstage occasionally, and then complain when someone else does it. So, yes, I forgive them.

By "cracking" on stage - do we mean like stumbling on a line, or forgetting the line??
If that is what we are saying. I've never seen it happen on Bway. But i've seen it happen in Community/Childrens Theatre - which is totally understandable.

Posted: 8/7/05 at 11:17amI thought we were talking about cracking notes - singing.

Well the same thing as before. I mainly see that in Community/Children's Theatre.

Of course not. If a performer cracks then I personally damn them to hell.

I'm with Patronus,
I like to stand up in the audience and yell, "We all heard you crack!" and then wait for them by the stage door so I can get a picture with me telling them they cracked.

Oh yeah, I usually take my sign to pose with them at the stage door that says:

I AM WITH SALTINE.

LOL, I thought the same thing. I actually posted a response to the "zero tolerance for crackers" comment, but I chickened out and edited it to reflect the Saltine/Stage Door photo comment.

Posted: 8/7/05 at 12:48pmI think it's ok. They are only human. I jsut would hope it's not a regular occurance.

Posted: 8/7/05 at 12:51pmcraking is perfecly normal especially if you're nervous because face it, even the best of the best still get nervous before going onstage. nobody is perfect, && the skilled actors are the ones who will sit in the audience and know what the person is going through. after hours upon hours upon more hours of rehearsal, you're voice isn't exactly peachy. ohh trust me. people need to learn to deal and cope. we're only human.

i absolutely hate it when professionals crack..i mean COME ON!!! i'm even better than that!!!
YEAH RIGHT!
come on, they're human!!! it doesn't bother me in the slightest, i actually almost like it because it brings back into my brain that they're real people, not superhuman performing machines.

#20re: Do you forgive performers who crack onstage?
Posted: 8/7/05 at 1:09pmIt's annoying. LaCheno did it all through her Wicked performance when I saw it. I'm not paying for her to laugh at herself.

Posted: 8/7/05 at 1:17pmSomeone should decide if this thread is about voices cracking or breaking character.

pretty sure it's voices craking.
though breaking character depnds on the person && whether or not they can "stay in the zone"
