Do you know these 10 showtunes? (Application deadline is today!)

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

re: Do you know these 10 showtunes?

I love Candle on the Water! I have all of those recordings, but I can't say I know all the songs off the top of my head or anything. I do think it's a little odd they tossed in a couple of songs from films rather than stage musicals.

Apparently, I'm an anti-fan. I don't know a single one of those songs. And...Buffy? Kids, it ain't a showtune if it's not from a show.

I don't know any of the songs. Except "Candle on the Water"

"Big and Loud" <--- LOVE that song.
I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)

re: Do you know these 10 showtunes?

1) Those ten showtunes are not supposed to be considered in the "top." They are testers. If you know those songs, then it means you probably have a large enough musical repertoire to be a candidate. This is why songs from well-known composers & shows are not listed.

2) And the article states that they are including songs from film and television, not just stage.

Yikes, I only know "Big and Loud" and "Candle on the Water." Apparently, not only am I fan of terrible musicals, but I'm also a terrible musical fan.

I LOVE Cats Don't Dance! I tried to buy it for myself last year, but ended up having to give it to my sister for Christmas. Long, confusing story.

re: Do you know these 10 showtunes?

Four of them aren't even showtunes. When the creators of this time-waster get serious, they should put out a list of actual songs from shows.
