I just got an e-mail this afternoon from the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle advertising tickets on sale for "Doctor Dolittle". I was surprised since I had heard the tour had died in Hershey, PA just recently. So I called the box office and was told the tour was suspended but will re-open in late November in Seattle. I asked if Tommy Tune was taking over as director and though she had heard similar reports and thought his involvement would be exciting, nothing had been confirmed yet. Soooo I'll post my review next month if all goes as planned.
Reidel indicated today that an offer has gone out to Tune to not only direct, but also star. However, after his last two shows failed (The Little Whorehouse Goes Public and Busker Alley), Tune doesn't want to be associated with another flop, and is seriously considering whether anything is salvageable.
Again, all this was in Reidel's column today, along with a particularly amusing bit about his over-estimating the cost of the Lord of the Rings musical.
