I haven't seen her performance, and was just wondering if she's good enough to get the Tony. Most of the reviews for her seemed to be quite positive, and a lot of you guys seem to really like her performance (Munk). I'm curious to know what you think.

I loved Christina's performance, but....no.
Victoria Clark has cleared a spot on her mantel for weeks now.

i for sure dont think anyone is a lock for the win. victoria, sherie, and sutton all have a damn good chance.

First of all, doesn't the show have to have opened before this? I thought it had to open by a certain date before nominations came out. And second, isn't Sherie supporting? I haven't seen it, but that's been the general concensus.
Everyone has a chance, but most likely she won't win. My vote is for Sutton Foster in "Little Women".
Christina holds her own, and again, is a testament to dedication, hard work, and passion. My friend and I both agree, "Sweet Charity" is worth seeing. It's not perfect, but I have yet to see a perfect show. Everyone has their own opinion, but don't let other people's opinions keep you away from "SC".
I will lose a plethora of respect for the Tony Voters (whatever respect I have left) if Christina wins the Tony Award. However, I think it is unlikely.
In any event, Sutton Foster better not win the Tony Award. Althought she is a superb actress, I just don't think her winning would be right. She has one, and Little Women is not that good. I believe that Victoria Clark and Sherie Rene Scott are two gals who have put in a lot of time to Broadway, and have had their fair share of shows and experience. They are the two deserving of this year's Tony Award.

You have to remember: the Tonys aren't always about who is the best. It's all politics, just like every other award show. It shouldn't be like that, but it is. Victoria Clark may have been the best this year, but Christina is a Hollywood star thats been through a lot and isn't stinking up the theater. Personally, I view her as front runner.

Christina did a great job. Unfortunately I do not think that she deserves that Tony award. Personally I think that her performance was a little too similar to Shirley McLaine's. A good performance it was, but not her own.

To whoever mentioned this upthread...
The Tony Committee deemed Sherie a leading actress, so she'll be competing in this category.
If Applegate gets a tony and CLark doesn't, that'll be a sad comment on Broadway.
I might have to take action.
I think she has a chance......but I'll bet she comes in second......

I thought she was good. I would give it to Sutton or Clark but lets not forget John Lithgow in 2002 won for Sweet Smell so I think the fact that she did a good job and she is famous gives her a great shot. Although I don't think she should win.

For the record, just because an actress already has a Tony does not mean that she should not get another one. If she's working hard and doing a good job, and is deemed better than all the others, then she deserves it! Accordingly, no actress should get a Tony because they're "due for it" or something as innane as that. Yes, there are politics involved, but those reasons are rediculous.
Well, that's true......but it still happens anyways
However, usually the right person wins, and if not, then it probably could have gone either way......

I agree... but who's to say who the "right" person is? Just playing devil's advocate... I thought the "right" person got it last year, and a lot of people disagree with me... I also thought that the "right" musical got it and SO many people would argue otherwise... 'tis a dangerous ground you tread when you talk about any kind of art and what is "right" or "not right"

ashley, the show actually opened on the cutoff date
I can see where others are coming from, and perhaps she could win it from a political standpoint, though in my opinion that would be a shame. I saw Victoria, Sutton and Sherie and though all 3 are great, Victoria hands-down gave the best performance. Also, some of the politics are a tad in her favor, being in the business so long. So I would think she's the front-runner and I certainly hope she gets the Tony.
I mean, do we think any of the actors in Spamalot are the front-runner over Norbie b/c they're "Hollywood?" I certainly hope not.
Looking back on it, in most of TLITP's reviews, there was only a sentence or two talking about Ms Clark. No one really (and correct me, please, if Im wrong) fell head over heels in love with her performance. So personally, Victoria will probably win still but anyone (including Christina) could sneak in last minute.
of course she has a chance, she has a good chance. She won an Emmy a few short years ago for playing Rachel's sister on FRIENDS.....she is not a stranger to "winning awards." However, being a "Hollywood star" does not necessarily help win a Tony. There are hundreds of much bigger stars than Christina who have been Tony nominated but have never won. Elizabeth Taylor, Julie Andrews, Katherine Hepburn, Lynn Redgrave, Joan Rivers, etc.
If she gets it congrats to her because she is a hard worker and when i went to that theatre to see Sweet Charity , I enjoyed it .... she did her job.....
If she doesn't get it, well it isn't a big deal for the past 3 years certain preformers and shows were TOTALLY screwed at the awards..... I really don't think that the Tony awards are a big deal anymore.....

And the Tony goes to: Victoria Clark
period.

I think Sara Ramirez will get it. SHe was the most amazing musical actress I've seen on broadway this whole season.
Except when it goes to Christina Applegate. Period.
I'mt oo lazy to look back up here and see who said it, but someone said most reviews only mentioned Clark in one or two sentences...compltely untrue.
Brantley even said Clark was giving the most satisfying performance in a musical this year and possibly in many years.
Hardly short shrift.
