I know that themovie isnt definite, but Kristin has stated several times that should a movie be made, she is guaranteed the part of Glinda.
Does Idina have the same guarantee?

After reading the Wicked script, I just hope Winnie Holzman doesn't have the guarantee that Kristin has.
*snerk*
I don't see how ANYONE can have a guarantee that they will be in a movie. Especially one that might not be made for a number of years. What director or producer will take on a project knowing that they will have to cast someone, even if that person is great. I think that with Kristin, talk of a guarantee was wishful thinking.
I hope not...and If a movie was to be made I wish they would base it off of the book, not the musical.
Totally agree with you, shlamdiddly.

I haven't read the novel yet, but I have heard about it from a friend who has read it.
If I were to make it into a movie, I would take the darker themes from the book and mix it with the premise of the musical. I would develop both Glinda's and Elphaba's characters much further than the musical did, and try to make the supporting characters not so one-dimensional. I would probably make Elphaba turn more bitter and angry in the end rather than just having her wickedness just be a machine of the Wizard's PR.
But that's just me.
Kristten says she's guaranteed? I don't believe her if she said that.
well, when you check her contract out then you wil know FER SURE!!!
well, you are all assuming that the film rights would make it a musical -- they were optioned and sold long before the concept of the broadway show ever happened and were bought by Demi Moore's production company -- we can only hope that if a film is made it follows the novel rather than the show -- now don't you all get worked up -- I liked the show (after about 10 minutes whenI realized I had to let go of the novel) -- but for those of you who have not read the novel, PLEASE do so -- it is one of the finest pieces of literature to comeout in a long time -- very complex and developed themes and characters. I would LOVE to see Jody Foster play Elphaba -- the first actress who came to mind for Gregory Maguire was Winonna Ryder (pre-shoplift).

Sorry 'Wicked' fanatics but some things are better left to the stage. I don't think it would make a good movie. Kristen and Idina would probably both be cast and they'd get big names for everything else, just because of their Broadway response. It's like 'The Producers'. Now that they are making the musical into a movie, they got Will Ferral (sp? sorry) and Nicole Kidman to join the cast. -Penny

I would like it to be a movie of the book and not a musical. That said, it would change the story quite a lot and I don't know how Kristin and Idina would adapt to/feel about it... It would be like playing the same character very differently.
Wow. That made very little sense, and I'm sorry. I have a killer headache.
dont think kristin said she was guaranteed. i beleive she said if they made it into a movie she would love to be in it.
I don't think it would work as a movie. The show is a spectacle that wouldn't pack the same punch on film.

we had this conversation not too long ago and I was adament that they wouldn't guarentee Kristin the role, but someone did find a quote of hers saying that shed be "tied into it" though I'm not sure that means anything at all. Either way I hate to say it but they'd prob go for big names. And Idina just isn't one. Bebe Neuwerth was a bigger name than Idina and she begged to be in Chicago and didn't get it. And as far as The Producers - Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick ARE big names! I mean I know they threw in Nicole and Will - but Matt and Nathan are every bit as big as they are. Difference is there that it was already a movie, that Mel Brooks made, Mel Brooks made the musical, Mel Brooks remade the movie. Its all Mel Brooks - not all kinds of different people vying for the rights.
I just vote that people stop trying to make a good boook into a musical, and now a movie, and god knows wen they'll announce a wicked TV shows-im sick of the yicky money making schemes
God I hope so!
I can't imagine if a movie is done leaving Kristin out, she's too perfect for the part (is was written with her in mind). Idina will probably be in it too b/c not to many people can sing that part that well. Kristin, well, I'm not even sure JLT is singing as weel, she even said she can't do the coloraturra stuff that Kristin did.
MusicPos2, this is assuming that its going to be the musical.
I would love to see the book version taken to film, but IF the musical is made into a movie, maybe at least it can right some wrongs and touch up on some of the more underdeveloped characters (i.e. the wizard, fiyero..)

Well, I have read the book, and I will say I'm a huge Wicked fan now, but when I first saw it, I only started to let go of the fact that it wasn't going to be like the book towards the end of the first act. Because I was expecting the book and expecting a darker story, but you know what? The book could have never been summarized in a musical that's less than 2 and a half hours, and the musical is enjoyable the way it is (to me at least). Gregory Maguire himself was happy with Winnie Holzman's take on it. Let's remember The Wizard of Oz movie wasn't exactly like the book. In the book, I don't think the witch was even green, and there were plenty of other things not incorporated into the movie.
Now if they did do a movie on Wicked, I wouldn't want a musical. I would want it to be based on Gregory Maguire's novel. I think that would make for an awesome movie. However, I can't see Kristin and Idina in the movie because I wouldn't expect their characters to be as one-dimensional and light as in the musical. Let's just say, I'd expect darker characters. I think G(a)linda would need to act like a bitchy, mean girl in the first part of the movie that you dislike, not a perky, dumb blond. This would have to be a drama thriller, not a comedy.
I agree that if it were based on the book, they might not be the best choices, but one-dimensional? What the **** musical did you see? They are incredibly complex characters!

if idina doesn't have the guarantee i vote eden!
I sure hope that either she's better than every clip I've heard, or they find someone better than Eden.

Dude, you ever heard of an opinion? I love this show myself, but if you've read the book, the characters are a lot more complex than the characters in the actual show. And I am not only implying Glinda and Elphaba. How about Fiyero, Nessarose, Boq, even Dr. Dillamond? There was more to them in the book, hence, there would be more to them in the movie based on the book.
