Does WSS have alternate cast members (matinees etc)? Anyone to avoid? Thanks! nm

Yes, for Tony. I believe the alternate foes on Wednesday evenings, and Sunday matinees, however with the show closing soon, I'm not sure how that's been adjusted.

Matt Shingledecker, the alternate for Tony, is much, much, much better than Matthew Hydzik, the regular Tony.

I have seen it with Matthew H and Matt Shingledecker...I agree Matt Shingledecker shines! He hit the sustained high notes in Maria and sent chills down my spine! I would love to see him again but I wont be in NYC until mid Jan. See him if you can.

I hope he gets to do the final performance on Sun jan 2. He is living his dream.

Anyone know what his next endeavor will be?

Shingledecker didn't sing the optional MARIA note when I saw it. But maybe he does now.

According to his twitter, Shingledecker is playing Tony one more time before the closing- the Saturday matinee (he performed Sunday night and Monday night as well).

I don't recall him hitting the optional note, either. The only one that I ever heard do it onstage was Jeremy Jordan.

Yes, the b flat. I heard Cavenaugh sing it on several occasions. He didn't always do it though.

My advice: skip the production altogether, and just watch the movie instead. You'll save money since this revival is extremely uninspired IMHO.

To be a little more helpful, however: I saw Shingledecker, and he definitely was the best part of the show (along with Olivo). It's too bad everyone/everything else was so bland.

Hmmm... I definitely saw Olivo. I know I saw the alternate Tony at the time, and Shingledecker sounded like it was right. I guess I was mistaken then. My opinions of the production still stand though. Haha

^If you saw an alternate with Karen Olivo, than you saw Jeremy Jordan, not Matt Shingledecker.

^^Wouldn't the alternate Tony with Karen Olivo have been Matthew Hydzik? Jeremy Jordan would still have been in Rock of Ages at the time.

^ No. Jordan became the alternate in December 09. Karen officially left in May (2010). I saw them together in January.

And Hydzik was never an alternate. He was just the standby. Cavenaugh did all 8 performances a week.

Based on their performances the entire cast appears to be alternates from Hicksville Amateur Theatre Group.

^ The current cast isn't that great. The best leads that I have seen were Jeremy Jordan, Josefina Scaglione (Tony nominee), and Karen Olivo (Tony winner).
