I hear from a friend that Dolly Parton is busy writing a Musical.
Any updates/confirmation on this??
Could be interesting I hadn't heard anything about that.
Hmm, "The Ballad of Jolene" could be fun.
For that matter, whatever happened to Donna Summer's Broadway musical? She sang a couple of songs in her concert several years ago. Then, poof.
I thought I'd heard they were interested in a musical version of "9 to 5".
Anyone else?
Country music legend DOLLY PARTON is making plans to bring a musical based on her life to the stage. The I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU singer is working on a Broadway, New York City, show chronicling her career, which will feature new and original music from the country superstar. She says, "It may be three to five years before I get that done. "I will be in it. I would like to write it in such a way where I could take part in it once in a while. "I have no desire to spend years on Broadway."

Recent articles (and I do believe there's a thread here) all discuss that Dolly is musicalizing her very popular film from the 1980s, "9 to 5."
Dolly is busy writing "9 to 5" the Broadway musical. There has been no formal press about it, but Dolly keeps mentioning it in interviews. Last I saw her on CMT she said she was almost finished. Her website mentions nothing.
She also talks about it in the 9 to 5 Special Edition DVD. She states that she was having alot of fun writing songs for all the girls, especially Roz and was writing songs for Mr. Hart. She also mentions she was working with 9 to 5 film screenwriter Patty Resnick on the book. So there will most likely be some announcements soon. She'll probably produce the thing herself since she's mega-millionaire so she won;t have to worry about finding backers. Actually, I started a thread about casting 9 to 5 if you do a search.
I love me some Dolly.
On a related note-Dolly does want to produce a musical version of her life story for film, not Broadway and wants Kristin Chenowith to play her. They met in Washington at the July 4th concert a few years back and Dolly fell in love with her. It really would be inspired casting.
