I don't know how serious your post is, but getting an illegal ID is not the answer to your problems. If you did get one, and someone caught you, you could end up in a worse off situation than you are now.

I suggest you get some help; see a counselor or something. Meanwhile, there are many cheap ways to see a show. BroadwayBox, Theatermania, and Playbill have discounts and tickets tend to be $55-75. You can get tickets for around that price range at TKTS. A lot of shows sell cheaper tickets for the last row of the mezzanine. You won't have the best seats in the house, but at least you will be seeing the show. Mary Poppins and Drowsy Chaperone have $20-30 seats in the last two rows of the balcony and mezzanine, respectively. On certain days, Phantom of the Opera has $25 seats for the last couple of rows in the mezzanine and so does Hairspray. Do a little research on ticket price ranges for each show. There's always lotto, too (Hairspray, Rent, Drowsy Chaperone, Wicked).

To the people who mocked me and my situation: I hope you got a good laugh. I was homeless for five days and lived out of my car and showered in a homeless shelter. HA HA HA sooooooo funny and amusing. My father died of stomach cancer after suffering for two years.... Whooopeeee, let's go, make some more witty remarks! I tried to commit suicide.... WOWEEEE laugh it up........ come on, write some more amusing snarky comments!
All I did was ask a question, if you don't personally agree with what I am asking for or don't wish to answer, don't answer. Why the need to insult or make fun of someone?

To the person/people who said I could get caught with an illegal ID and the consequences could be horrible: Ummm, I wasn't asking for a fake state driver's license.. I was asking for something like an NYU ID. Do you think a police officer is going to come up and go: You, you there... do you REALLY attend classes? Let me see your course schedule. That is retarted. When I used to do student rushes with my old college ID, I went to a rinky dink college no one heard of at the time. It was simply a laminated yellow card with my picture and the name of the school. The box offices just glance at it to see you have some form of a school ID, they don't analyze it, look it up, or call the college to confirm you are enrolled........ what is the worst they would do anyway? Say, "Sorry, but we can't honor this." ??

To the person who said that immersing myself and drowning myself in B'way shows isn't the answer. Uhh, I just want to see a show twice a month or so. Hardly drowning my problems in it.

To those who said I need counseling.... UM do you not think I have sought that out? Do you have $150 to $200 an hour? I don't. Because if you are an adult and not on your parents' insurance, there is no such thing as affordable, inexpensive therapy. I went to a hospital clinic where I had charity care (since I was out of work for eight months), and all they would do is prescribe medication, they said, "We do not do therapy here. We only do medication monitoring." I sought out "sliding scale" doctors and the only one I found who would see me for something affordable was a social worker who is not truly qualified or capable of dealing with the things in my particular case. I have a place to live, a full- time job and I am not overdosing on pills, so what particularly in your oh so expert opinion do you think or know a therapist could do for me? Sometimes, life just sucks and a person's situation sucks and sometimes there isn't much a therapist can do.... life is just the way it is and financial realities exist differently for different people.

I can't imagine personally reading someone's problems that they have seriously gone through and suffered through, and making a mockery of it or insulting them or judging them.

PS fyi: This was not my first post, this was my first post under *this* username.

So? It's still illegal activity. A fake ID is a fake ID whether it is from a school or through the state. Sure, it sounds so easy that you won't get caught, but there's always that "What if?".

I apologize for all your personal problems, but as I said, there are cheaper options to seeing shows and you don't have to be a student. You did say you had a full time job, didn't you? I'm not asking you to map out your financial situation for me, but you can't really afford those options? General rush? Lottery? TKTS? SRO? Even if your job is making you little money, you could probably afford some of these options.

-Chicago has a $26.25 general rush. I think Color Purple's rush is also a general rush.

-Spelling Bee sells 14 $25 bleacher seats when the box office opens. And you don't need a student ID.

-Chorus Line, Curtains, Spring Awakening, Mary Poppins, Jersey Boys, Les Mis, Mamma Mia and Spamalot all have SRO in the $20 range. Spamalot and Jersey Boys usually always sell them.

-Drowsy Chaperone, Avenue Q, Rent, Wicked, and Hairspray all have lotto for tickets in the $20 range.

-Drowsy Chaperone sells the last two rows of the mezzanine for $25.

-For certain weekday performances (weekdays except Fridays), Phantom has $26.50 seats in Rows K-L of the rear mezzanine (and I believe there are more shows that sell tickets in the last couple of rows of the mezzanine at a reduced rate).

-Xanadu and Spring Awakening have onstage seating options for $41.25 and $31.25, respectively.

-Legally Blonde has $40 balcony tickets.

A bit pricier but reduced options include TKTS and BroadwayBox discounts. Perhaps you can always save up little by little for something a bit more expensive as a treat. You could see nearly every show on Broadway without paying full price. You don't need a fake ID.

Yes, I am unhappy. No, I don't feel good making fun of him. I thought I would, but I don't.

But, listen: If this person is even real, I am very sorry his life sucks more than a Japanese hooker. But this is a theatre message board - not a psychoanalyst board. We - as theatre people - have enough problems of our own. The only good this guy's problems will do are to inspire an award winning performance or an award winning play. But, clearly, the public doesn't like downers.

So, unless this guy, TrueBlue, gets his fake ID, arrested, locked up in a prison with a bodybuilder named Juan who takes a fancy to him and helps him escape and, so touched by this experience, TrueBlue goes to work at a McDonald's and then becomes a manager of the Times Square branch and uses all his money to save the homeless, I don't see any teenybopper crowd paying money to see his story.

Longest sentence. Ever.

Anyway, my point is - why do movies always have cop out endings in order to appease middle America? Why, I ask! Why dammit!?

Actually you can find therapists for free. You live in NEW YORK CITY. They have all kinds of things out there. And if you want to be going to the theater for free or student tickets, Join a Community College -- AND ACTUALLY GO BACK TO SCHOOL TO BETTER YOURSELF.
Then you would be doing it LEGALLY.
Thanks

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

most shows nowadays do either General Rush or lottery (or no rush at all). I can't really think of many (good) shows that offer rush to Students only....

"However, engaging in illegal actitivy (possession of fake identification) and unethical activity is certainly not the answer to your loneliness. If fact, it could cause even worse problems.....Perhaps you can research more appropriate ways to find tickets and enjoy the shows. Best of luck to you and I hope your situation improves."

"Yeah, considering he's asking about something illegal, I thought this thread would have been deleted by now."

"Hun,

I feel your pain, I do. But engaging in illegal activity like this, can not only bring damage to youself, if you get caught, but can also be problematic for thousands of other students that see shows each year. If you get caught with a fake id, not only do you face charges, but you might make theater owners more hesitant to give student discounts, knowing they may be ripped off. Student discounts are a luxury, not a right."

Maybe TrueBlue should get his/her illegal ID and then go see RENT. I think that he/she would really empathize with the story.

evediva, just because someone has been through a series of tragic events entitles them to break the law? The stuff you pasted isn't "attacking" anyone, but rather pointing out that it is wrong to obtain a fake ID and it can have consequences (whether you can see it or not).

Besides, I just listed a bunch of options that TrueBlue could look into as cheaper alternatives to getting a fake ID and risking getting in trouble - don't you read evediva? Just trying to offer a bit of help. If you think about it, less shows are offering student rush - A Chorus Line, Legally Blonde, Les Mis, Spelling Bee, and Spring Awakening are the only ones I can think of off the top of my mind. And all those shows have cheap tickets that are NOT student rush.

Again, TrueBlue, if this is true, I feel sorry at your situation and I hope you look into some of those options and see the shows you want.

The point is, I do feel sorry that you are in such a position...but the fact of the matter is that that is breaking the law. IF you get caught..you WILL get in trouble. Ok yeah, maybe they won't just STOP you and demand to know the truth, but how do you know I don't happen to know the only poster on this board that will get you the ID and I report it? You have to be careful...this is the internet. A lot of stuff goes down on the internet. There are a lot more people on BWW then you think. We can't give fake college IDs to just anyone who has an unfortunate story.

And you really shouldn't react to other's comments of advice to you in that manner. Believe it or not, people on this board have faced similar circumstances. Some even worse.

TrueBlue, really, do you honestly think obtaining a fake ID to get cheap theatre tickets (especially because millie posted a bunch of options to get cheap tickets) is going to help your situation? You're in a bad spot. I get that. But seeing a show should be the least of your problems right now. You should be finding a way to make your situation better, and getting a fake ID won't help you.

I am really confused at how a "GREY GARDENS Is Closing" thread gets deleted in a split second, and a thread seeking someone who can help this person obtain a fake ID still lives on days after its initiation.

Next we know - no more student rush.
