re: Donna Lynne Champlin rehearses for SWEENEY TODD

I don't see how these actors can tote their instruments...play the score...sing...and act their parts all at the same time.

But, hey...I'm excited to see how this turns out.

DL is definitely hug worthy. :) I'm so proud of her ... even if she does suck and screws La LuPone up, she'll always be the bestest in my eyes. (But, of course, she won't! Positive vibes!)

Wow...well, at least they're getting paid double duty (for those who don't know, the cast members are each receiving two separate union salaries; one as actors, one as musicians). They're definitely earning it!

re: Donna Lynne Champlin rehearses for SWEENEY TODD

Wow. Did this article kind of piss anyone else off?

If she didn't know how to play the accordian, she shouldn't of pretended she knew how to. That'll teach you to front, n*igga!

And being that the talentless b*tch was fortunate enough to get into this production, I don't think she should really be complaining about it...it's her own fault she's in over her head and there are tons of other people who would be thrilled to take her place.

What an ungrateful wench.

andy, your such an asshole. At least shes trying. And I think everyone has been in a situation that turned out to be alot harder then they thought it would be, which is what this sounds like. Cut the poor woman a break.

I'm going to apologize for the ignorance of my utterly subtle friend above.

You know, darling, from your tone many would believe you didn't think DL was uber-hilarious and extremely endearing. May I suggest you "shouldn't of" taken such a hostile tone in speaking 'bout one of my peeps. You askin' for a b*tch slappin'!

re: Donna Lynne Champlin rehearses for SWEENEY TODD

Oh wow. Sorry if that came across wrong.

Yes. I think Donna Lynne is great and as endearing as Drew Barrymore. I also think she's extremely overrated as well as an ungrateful and talentless b*tch who takes everything she's been lucky enough and fortunate enough to get for granted. I just hope one day she gets what she deserves.

Did that help?

This is funny! I'm sure this gal is a pro and that nobody involved in the production will allow her to embarrass herself or destroy the production. Playing the accordion, roller skating, riding a horse - it's all the same when you really don't know how. I'll know October 19th!

This reminds me, I had "clarinet" on my resume for years because I'd played up through Junior High. Then it sat in a closet and got shuttled around from place to place for years. I finally got called to "clarinet-ize" some moody background music in stock and had to go get the thing out of the pawn shop around the corner (I'd gotten hungry between gigs. All the pads had to be replaced before I could do anything! And just try to get your embechour (sp?) back after all that time. Yipes! Then they handed me a piano chart and, well the clarinet is BFlat! The director seemed to think it was working until the night I decided to go off the score and improvise for a bit. I didn't do THAT again. But I did take "clarinet" off my resume.

Andy, darling, have you forgotten that upon joining the cast La Lupone couldn't play the tuba? Donna's not alone in this.

Donna Lynne is a very talented woman, very dedicated and far too modest. I'm sure she already plays the accordian better than half the cast plays their main instrument.

Besides, once everyone sees what a brilliant performer she is, a missed note here or there would definitely be forgivable.

ok,

I have to defend DL here. Listen buddy, she has more talent in her one arm than most people have in their whole bodies. and UNGRATEFUL, are you kidding? an ungrateful person would have said to the creative team, "I don't play this that well, please change my track to just piano and flute". However, the fact that this woman is WORKING like mad to learn the accordion just demonstrates how dedicated she is. She is a triple threat, and a WONDERFUL person

Doug

FYI- I agree... knowing DL, I can gaurantee that she is playing Accordion better than most of the cast is playing their instruments.

re: Donna Lynne Champlin rehearses for SWEENEY TODD

After seeing the production in London, I can assure you all that they work in the instruments very well; they're a part of the performers, just like the puppets in Avenue Q.

And as for the whole learning to play the accordion thing, that's the way it's usually done: if the performer can play the piano, then it's assumed they can learn to play the accordion as well. The majority of the actresses who played Fraulein Kost in the revival of Cabaret knew piano and learned to play accordion for the production. It's just not an instrument that many people grow up playing.

Oh yeah, the article was entertaining. That's what the post was about, right?
