The producers say they want to open the show with a recognizable song, and CBS wants more production numbers. Let the shafted and brilliant Donna Murphy, Michael Cerveris, and just shafted Laura Bell Bundy open the show with a stiring rendition of "I'M STILL HERE" from "Follies." It'll never happen, but it will give everyone to opprotunity to see these 3 talents perform, and by god all three of them could probably do a verse justice much better than Christine Biranski did this entire song a few months back.
Like I said, will never happen, but I thought LB & LM performing at this years telecast was such a good idea, it will be ashame if these 3 don't get to do anything but just sit their and watch a clip from their show. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it'll be the frist time Donna has been nominated and won't get to perform a number from the show she was in. Grrrr. Politics!
You're right, LaCage, it's the first time Donna is nominated and will not get to perform in the ceremony. Though the short boring THE KING & I performance they did at the Tonys hardly counts.
About "I'm Still Here"...where has Laura Bell Bundy been?
LaCage, I would say that I think you're hilarious and so funny but I'd be lying through my teeth.
Frankly, if the Pirate Queen hasn't posted a closing notice by Tony time, I think the cast should do a rousing rendition of "I'm Still Here" set to Irish step dance. LOL. Kidding kidding. Don't shoot me.
Munk, we've never found humor in the same things, I wouldn't expect you too find this funny either.
Ray, yes the KING & I performance was indeen truncated, but I'd take a good musical like K&I over some of the garbage we get today for Broadway fare.
Out of those three, the right person to sing that song would be Donna.

Recognizable to whom? Unless they mean the diehard theatre aficiandos (the ones who already watch the show), I hardly think "I'm Still Here" is considered all the recgonizable.
Plus the lyrics would make zero sense with those three people singing them just to be singing the song on the Tonys.
Yeah, Kringas, I agree. I still don't really get the mindset behind this thread.

Yeah, I want to see Laura Bell Bundy sing "I've lived through Brenda Frazier and I'm here."
...
Unless they have a bunch of people singing "We're Still Here", referring to the fact that the Tonys are STILL on TV despite the pathetically low number of viewers.

I agree with anyone who said it would no sense, except maybe for Donna, but even she would be stretching it, if you know what I mean.
But.. "About "I'm Still Here"...where has Laura Bell Bundy been?"
- Hahah Someone's been watching the Elaine Stritch DVD....
LOL, you caught me Rockabye
"I've been through Michael Riedel and I'm here..."
Hmm.
