During her run, she was on a talk show and did By the Sea. It was great. Does anyone remember what the talk show was?
I'm pretty sure it was Merv Griffin. I think she and George Hearn also sang "My Friends".

Posted: 12/28/07 at 4:55pmLoudon was very funny on that Merv Griffin show as she described how she kept having trouble inside the pie shop/barber shop unit. Because the unit would spin and move about the stage she said she would on occasion make her entrance out of the wrong door and she'd be facing upstage.

Posted: 12/28/07 at 5:01pmI saw her play the role and just loved her! She brought just the right mix of humor and pathos. And she had a beautiful voice.

Posted: 1/4/08 at 11:37pmI'm surprised though that Lansbury has been mentioned as over the top when watching some of these, I find her exclamations stepping past the Angela borderline.

Posted: 1/4/08 at 11:39pmI agree, but I still love Loudon.

Posted: 1/4/08 at 11:40pmI think some people think Angela went over the top because her voice sounded like such a cartoon character. Dorothy manages to sound more like a regular woman, but has the crazy mannerisms. Both are amazing. Angela is the ultimate Lovett though for me.

Posted: 1/4/08 at 11:45pmThe role is so marvelous in having multiple opportunities to capitalize on a distinct portrayal more so than other poorly written roles. In any case, they're all winners to me, not only because of the writing, but because it seems that every woman who has had a chance to play her and get attention for it seems to really nail it and manage to be unique.

Posted: 1/8/08 at 5:13pmI saw Ms. Loudon in the National Tour, and she was wonderful. But, does anyone know who played Sweeney? My friend who went with me says it was Ken LaRue? I'm not familiar with that actor. I thought it was George Hearn. Can anyone help? Thanks

I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO SEE/HEAR HER LOVETT FOR SO LONG!
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this!!

Posted: 1/8/08 at 5:21pmLoudon's Lovett gets completely crazy at times. She adds a lot of her own sort of crazy over-the-top performing style to the role. What a wonderful actress she was though. I miss the time when replacements and national tour companies where big Broadway stars that matched (or surpassed) their original Broadway cast counterparts.
