So what's the word on Tommy Tune's Dr. Doolittle? I believe the tour finished at the end of July. Will it come to Broadway?

I was wondering the same thing. I'm a big Tune AND Hoty fan, and was hoping for the best for this show. Alas!

The website for the show has some photos and Tune sings while the site is loading...it's..kinda....I don't know.

I just watched the tv commercials on the website. Anytime a 10 or 30 second commercial has to show things other than what is going on onstage (i.e. Tommy Tune signing autographs), you know the show is hurting.

The best commercials of the 70s and 80s used the commercial to show clips from the show, which is what people want to see.

It was a painful show to watch... I took a workshop with Adam Cates (dance captain) and we learned the opening number of the show, which was about the only thing I thought was worth watching besides Aaron Burr, because I want to be able to tap like that kid.

This is too bad. I keep waiting for Tune to show up on Broadway again, and I guess this show isn't going to be it. The last time I saw him dance was in his Tommy Tune Tonite show at the Curran in the mid nineties. I'd just like to see his choreography show up on the boards again.

I saw this last month in Chicago. While the show wasn't any good, it wasn't as down and out awful as I expected.

The score has always been good. The script of the movie is just badly conceived and constructed.

This production threw out the movie book along with Anthony Newley's character and restructured it almost completely. Most of the same events occur, but in a different order and context.

This could work in stock and even at the Theatre at the Garden or the Music Hall for say, a three week run.

It was sad however to see no more than 700 people in a 2200 seat theatre on a Saturday evening. All the loge, mezz and balcony ticketholders were seated in the last 4 rows downstairs.

Agreed that the commercial sucked canal water big time.

The CD is great. I didn't understand how anyone could complain about the score, but then I looked at the song list for the tour and I see that some of the best songs from the OLC have been cut. My favorite being "Where Are the Words" ... why, after the show got such horrid reviews, didn't they just go back to the original London scripts?

excellent, as always...when will SHE get a show worhty of her talents?

Is this the type of show that you think would fare better in community or children's theater?

The original London cat recording is available on Amazon.com used for under five dollars and well worth it for that price. the cast is awesome and the songs, really, have always been brilliant, but they're at their best here especially when featuring a more complete score then what was seen on tour. not to mention Julie Andrews being brilliant as always.

Ugh!!! I know Aaron Burr, I used to do dance competitions with him, I always ended up competing against him, one year I was a tenth of a point from beating him. He is an amzing tapper, but I've never met a snottier person in my life, even though we talk to each other occasionally.

That's because Debbie Allen's choreography made people puke.

Phillip Schofield plays Dr. Dolittle. Sarah Jane Hassell is Emma and Julie Andrews sings Polynesia.

Eponine913-Was he really that snotty? Wow, I've obviously never met him and you'd know.. you must be pretty good yourself if you're competing against him.

justme2- I think this is a perfect show for a children's or community theatre. When I saw it there were so many kids there and lots of little children's summer camps there to see the show, and I think it was more the parents that didn't enjoy it. I'd actually like to see this show do well in that type of setting.

He might have changed, because it's been a year, and no, I'm not really that good, I just compete against him, or I did.

thanks brdwybound...The more I hear about the show, look at the reviews of the show, and check in on the website...I think of it's possibilities as a small venture, with and for children.

Perhaps someday.

Eponine913-Aaron Burr seemed snotty on America's Got Talent where never performed on TV! Ha! He also seemed sloppy in D. dolittle as a monkey.

The rights are out on MTI

"Ms. Hoty was excellent. I wanted to put a bullet in my mouth after the umpteenth time that I heard "Welcome to the world of Dr. DOOOOOOOOOlittle."

I copuldnt agree more. I hated that song with countries like Italy, France, Kentucky, India (really, I thought they were sart but Kentucky's, not a country)
