hahahaha
-that is so true though.
"One person in my office came to me the other day and said that he saw the trailer to the new GREASE movie the other day."
Haha, that's great. I know what you mean though, most people have no idea there's a Hairspray movie coming out. I'm just saying once everybody hears about it and sees Nikki, they may just blow paster her because she's so-called "This year's J. Hud." I'm sure everyone will eat her up, though.

Haha... excuse the snarkiness, but you misspelled your own username in the title of this thread. Haha.

Yeah I realized that....
Do Edna and Wilbur kiss in the movie?
It seems like every time i turn the TV on here in the UK they are talking about the film(and the show hasn't even opened here yet).
Im so glad we are getting the film at the same time as the states wooh wooh
Mr. Shaiman or anyone know if New Line booked The Ziegfeld in NYC? It's the best in NY and should be there. Of course if anyone at New Line had any showmanship, they would have played exclusively for two weeks at Radio City Music Hall, it worked for "the Lion King".
Just saw HAIRSPRAY tonight and I adored it! I loved every fabulous, festive, frisky, feisty, fenominal frame. Sheer joy from start to finish. The screening audience was cheering and clapping throughout. (Led by me of course!)
The adjustments made to tell the story cinematically worked well, and some shortcuts in narrative were understandable and not a bother. Mr. S, the additional music and orchestrations were incredible, including some double melodies (if that's even a term) where they hinted at one characters song while in the midst of another was so cool. I am sure there's a real term for that kind of thing. The enhanced vocals, especially in "Welcome To The 60's" and "Nicest Kids in Town" gave me chills. "I Know Where I've Been" was beautifully shot, very understated, which gave it such heft, building to a rousing climax, moving me to tears. And that Latifah is surely the Queen--B*tch can sang!!
Everyone in the film was just terrific, and JT was a pleasant surprise, as I had some doubts about how his contribution would turn out. No one came across as too cartoony, save for Allison Janney, who is really supposed to be a caricature and was a highlight. And thank you for introducing the world to the wonderful Nikki Blonsky, who lit up the screen from the beginning and won over the audience in a heartbeat. There's even a few musical theater nuggets to unearth (again, don't want to spoil) and a hoot of a cameo by some familiar faces!
I thought the ending was especially good, with a very satisfying adaption so as not to feel like a 'curtain call', as it does in the stage musical. Stay through the credits to enjoy a special number from 3 special ladies (don't want to give too much away)
It's truely a delightful experience, and I plan to Lather, Rinse and Repeat it many more times!
wow, that started my day out nicely!
THank you Mr. singingbackup
there are so many cameos that everyone in the audience knew who they were or what they had with the film or before that.
"tons of little kids like from ages 5-12" were able to recognize John Waters? What are some of the other cameos the 5 year olds recognized?
So the only "flaw" is that you didn't really care about the characters? Well, that is a pretty big flaw, if you ask me.
SueLeen Gay, always one of my favorites here.
Your hate-on for the the movie is gonna get harder and harder for you. Cause I'm tellin' ya, the movie is f**king great.
Travolta is f**king great. He is his own Edna, and is unique, adorable and full of love.
Audiences have been orgasmic. I have seen them. I have heard them. People are loving A MUSICAL. A real old-fashioned people breaking into song out of a scene MUSICAL. I wish that could make you happy.
I am sure you will despise it, which is your right. But it's a shame you are working yourself into such a tizzy!
Ok, off to work for me!

Marc, I hope I am wrong. Seriously. I LOVE a big old break into song musical more than I can say. I was responding to the review at the top of this thread that really makes no sense to me.
If you don't care about the characters what is the POINT of any play or movie? This poster said they did not.
I DO have a problem with Travolta in the role from what I have seen, but the rest looks GREAT. I hope you are right about him, but I have yet to see a real person behind the prosthetics in all the clips I have seen.
well, that poster explained, in his way, what he meant about that. You are still picking at that scab. Ewww!
Ya know, they do these cards at the end of these sneak previews. They specifically ask "which characters were your favorites?". "Edna"/Travolta (and, of course, "Tracy"/Nikki Blonsky) tops the lists every night. But they do go on and on and list so many of the others, it's nutty. The "preview" people don't even have the ability to process it as well as they do on your typical movie. (That is a good thing!)
I personally wish they had not released so many "clips", becasuse the tone of the movie and of Travolta's look, sound and performance really need to be taken step by step, as the story progresses.
Anyway, I am in a state of shock at how well it came out, and the over the top reactions it has been getting. I am really counting my blessings as well as counting the days till it is released, cause it is like frickin' torture.

Ok, let me explain this again, I did not care much about the characters, because I already knew them. I know the movie and the musical, so going in, I was already caring for them. It is hard to explain, mainly because the way I think is that I was hoping to go in and have a new level of caring for the characters...to me something different... so like saying why I should care about them all over again in a new way...and the movie did not. The movie gave me the same feeling when I saw the old movie and the musical.... so the same level of caring was the same through out. And that is perfectly fantastic with me...what made this movie better was the enhancing of the musical numbers...I was still seeing this movie like I was seeing it for the first time and that was amazing.... I hope this makes sense...still jumping words...go ahead and attack me if you want guys...the movie is amazing...JOHN is fantastic...and the movie is going to be great....and for the 5-12 year olds in the audience, I don't think they new (of course) who John Waters is, but they were clapping along anyway...it was really cute....
I got 10 chills throughout the whole movie. My rating is 10 chills out of 5..when the movie comes out..go see it..it will really make your day...
People loving a "break into dong and dance" musical... I think I may start crying.
I just received the Movie Photobook and the "Novel", which I highly reccomend even though they are designed for 10 year-olds.
