If Donna Murphy were so talented she would not be stuck on Bway. :)
Ebersole has the Tony, enough said. If Audra is so talented let her do VIRGINIA WOOLF [the Jerry Herman musical version called DRINK, VIRGINIA!] with Denzel.
Well Rath, we'll see what happens when both Marissa and Ethel are write-in nominees. Marissa for "Stacked- The Musical" and Ethel for "Gypsy- The Heaven Version".
If karma has its way, Monk will win over Ebersole, just like Ebersole won Best Actress for an even more featured Featured role for 42ND STREET.
Having seen 110, I don't think McDonald is any competition for Ebersole.

I think Ms. Monk's theatre is too small for her.
She has a big persona onstage and could easily appear in a house twice that size.
I do, Rath.

To me, Murphy's is the hottest ticket.
And she's a hot ticket, too.
This is definitely not going to happen but I have to say, I wish Ebersole and Audra would tie for the Tony this year.
If Murphy won I'd be quite a happy homo. Having said that, I don't get the whole Little Edie v. Lotte Lenya argument. This year it is not about which one of the three major competitors is giving the "best" performance, it's just about who the Tony voters think is the most deserving, and that will most likely be Christine Ebersole and you know what? I'll be celebrating when Ebersole wins...unlike the year Marissa Jaret Winokur won over Bernadette Peters, still not sure what the voters were smoking that year (talk about beating a dead horse).
All of the women give brilliant performances.
Ebersole blew me away three times. Her transformation in the second half is truly sensational. All three women deserve awards but I want Ebersole to take it.

Wouldn't it be great if there were a 3 way tie? Christine, Audra and Donna!! What a moment that would be!! (and everybody would be happy - hmmm, who were the other 2 nominees? Bundy and Monk)...
btw, the only 2 times there were ties were suspicious to me, since they were two early times that black actresses won - Diahann Carroll (tied with Anna Maria Alberghetti) and Leslie Uggams (tied with Patricia Routledge). A tie would mean the exact same number of votes. (the last tie in my memory was an absurd one: Pete Townsend's score for The Who's Tommy, which had almost completely been written for an album more than 20 years earlier, and Kander and Ebb's terrific NEW score for Kiss Of The Spider Woman).
remember when Donna won these awards before and then Idina won the Tony....I forsee that happening again this year.
So, theaterdude, you're saying Idina will take the Tony this year?
Sweet!
(All joking aside, this is, and always was Ebersole's award.)
Christine Ebersole is going to win but its really not fair because she is possessed by Edie Beale.
GO DONNA MURPHY!!!!
And I still say Donna Murphy would have won the Tony for Wonderful Town had she shown up the majority of the performances between Tony nominations and Tony Sunday. She missed Many Many performances during that time frame because of her vocal injury and that proved extremely costly. She missed 2 performances of LM, so Im sure whatever Tony Voters were in those shows were rescheduled and she (knock on wood) hasn't missed another show since.
The woman is a force and a damn good force at that!

Do it, Donna!
Get that Tony!
That injury cost Murphy the Tony Award in 2003, not only because some voters didn't get the chance to watch the performance but because all the bad press she was getting. Either way, that Tony belonged to Tonya Pinkins, IMO. But talk about beating a dead horse.
This year Murphy will unfortunately lose but to worthy competition, as much as I hope that she wins, it is Ebersole's year and I'll be cheering for Ebersole when she takes the podium.
I'll cheer for Ebersole too because your right, it is a worthy performance. But I STILL WANT DONNA TO WIN! She's brilliant as Lenya and deserves the highest honor for that performance. She really is one of the best musical theatre actress' of our time.
I agree that her performance was fantastic, however I don't think she should or could win. I think Ebersole and McDonald were more worthy, eeven though I thought donna was phenomonal
