I'm all for the original cast- I know it is NEVER going to happen...but just thinking about that cast makes me happy.

I think Carly Jibson is the perfect Tracy for the movie. I wouldn't normally even pick someone who's done the show before but she was THAT good to me.

And when I met Laura Bell Bundy outside Wicked, I didn't particularly care for her attitude...just for the record...
I hold a degree in Musical Theatre from Montclair State University. It is useless. Now I'm funny for money. Oh, and I sing.

I think Mandy Moore would make a great Amber. And I would be very sad if Harvey weren't cast.

Dakota Fanning could not play Tracy, Penny, or Amber as she was born in 1994, which makes her only 11...
Just a bit TOO YOUNG for this role, unless they wait 4 years before they make it...
Maybe Dakota could have a bit part when they have the youngsters on the Corny Collins show?

I would be so thrilled if Matt Morrison was Link again for the Hairspray movie. I'm assuming they would choose Marisa only because she was the Tony winner and that she is a little bit known in the Hollywood industry, but I think I would need Matt to probably go see the movie in the theatres.

I agree, I hope Marissa gets it. As for Harvey, I think he's the best choice for the part, as he was FREAKIN AMAZING... but, should they decide he is not right (as hollywood tends to be a bit jaded when it comes to making the right choice), the only other people I could see doing it are John Goodman, or Bruce Vilanch... Bruce I'm a little skeptical about giving the archival performance to over Harvey, but I also think it might not be a bad idea, I really do like him :)

Besides me as Link, or even Fender...I wouldn't mind Mandy Moore as Amber (after Saved! I think she could pull it off) or even Penny...not that she could hit the notes. I am all for an unknown Tracy.

I think that if they could pull it off with the original cast, they should. But if they want to add actors, there are people I would not replace: Kerry Butler, Matt Morrison, Marissa, Harvey, or Mary Bond Davis. And I would love to see Mandy Moore as Amber and I forgot who said it before but if they had to replace Kerry, Anneliese van der Pol from THats so Raven, although that would be a little bit of typecasting

My dream cast would be the original Broadway cast. Now, if for some reason, they couldn't all be available, I would definitely need to have Marissa Jaret Winokur, Harvey Fierstein and Kerry Butler. Those are my basic requirements.
