One of musical theater's most underrated gems...
She's shown on 30 Rock that she's brilliant at playing spoiled divas, so...
Lily Garland in On the Twentieth Century
Velma von Tussle in Hairspray
Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard (when she hits the right age)
The Lady of the Lake in Spamalot
I also think she'd be great as...
Fastrada in Pippin
Lola in Damn Yankees (which she played in Encores!)
Grizabella in Cats
Lili in Kiss Me Kate
For a long time I've really wanted her to play The Witch in Into the Woods.
She would nail the Witch, especially if she goes through the rigorous vocal training she did for NINE.
But really the role she was born to play is Dot in SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, much like Chenoweth was born to play Lily Garland. She has talked about it being a dream role for her too.
She would be a wonderful Dot.
Desiree in A Little Night Music
Sally in Cabaret
Audrey in Little Shop
Rose in Caroline, or Change
Edie in Grey Gardens
Wow, I'm surprised her name never came up to replace CZJ in the Night Music revival. Bernadette signed on last minute. Jane would be an excellent Desiree.
She is so very talented. I really hope she gets a Broadway vehicle at some point. And yes, she would be a fantastic Dot!
She'd make a good Queenie in Lachiusa's The Wild Party too.
Her Miss Adelaide in Guys & Dolls in London was fantastic. A wonderful production.
Krakowski's Adelaide is as perfect a rendition of that character as it gets. It's such a shame that she never got to do it in NY. From interviews it sounds like she was disappointed the production never came together...instead we got that awful, misguided revival directed by MacNuff.
And yes to her as Queenie in LaChiusa's show. She would be something special. I imagine her playing Desiree was never in the cards since she was on 30 ROCK at the time. My understanding is her schedule on that show got in the way of her starring in GUYS & DOLLS and DAMN YANKEES on Broadway.
Phyllis in Follies. Her performance of Could I Leave You? and Lucy & Jessie would be amazing.

Phyllis in Follies would be my first thought. (But we just had a revival of that...)
She'd be a great Chaperone in "The Drowsy Chaperone" I bet.

Wow so many great roles for her have been named. And YES to her as the Drowsy Chaperone! I think she'd be brilliant.
It's a true shame that Krakowski's chance to play Charity in Sweet Charity got away from her when she was primed to do it. There are so few shows that showcase a real triple threat and that's certainly one of them.
Beyond the aforementioned Dot in Sunday in the Park With George, Phyllis in Follies, and Desiree in A Little Night Music, I'd really love to see Krakowski as Rose in Gypsy. It's been done to death, lord knows, but I'd love to see her utilize her magnetic charm while stretching her muscles in a more dramatic light. I really think it would be something special.
Just thought of this and had to bring this thread back - Jane would make a BRILLIANT Gussie in Merrily We Roll Along!
