re: Dreamgirls Movie

Kelly needs more attention. She has just as much talent as Beyonce, in my opinion.

Never mention M*ch*ll* W*ll**ms in my presence.

re: Dreamgirls Movie

I'm so sorry. I completely understand.

re: Dreamgirls Movie

Good. I'm glad. Just to warn you. Mentioning D**n* D*G*rm* around me is not very smart if you value your life. Same goes for H*ll*r* D*ff.

re: Dreamgirls Movie

Wow! You and I are like the same person! I viciously attack anyone who even slightly likes those people!

re: Dreamgirls Movie

They are not safe around me. I whip out unnameable kitchen objects (if you don't get it, don't ask) and bash in their heads.

re: Dreamgirls Movie

I get it, and please, go no further. I would do the same.

re: Dreamgirls Movie

I do not like M*ch*ll* W*ll**ms because she has no place on Broadway. I only detest her in the theatre world. In the music world, I have less of a problem with her. I just don't think some people belong on broadway. As for the other censored name, think American Idol. Think Miss Piggy. You should have it about now.

re: Dreamgirls Movie

"Miss Piggy." Oh God, that's a freaky way of putting it (although not wholly an injust one).

re: Dreamgirls Movie

I was going to a non-performing arts school for a semester last year, and in choir I sang "Summertime" in the original opera way and a bunch of people were saying, "I love how you made that American Idol song like it was in an opera!" People are so stupid somtimes.

re: Dreamgirls Movie

She sounds like Macey Gray on crack.

Wow, someone else noted the similarity? I never watched American Idol, so I had no idea what Fantasia (what a name) sounded like. In fact, I was led to believe she had a big, belty, R&B kind of voice.

Finally, in the MLB All-Star Game, I heard her sing the national anthem. So. Badly. Now, it's almost a requirement that the higher the sporting event, the worse the singer of the anthem is. But my goodness, Fantasia was bad. I actually like Macy Gray, because she knows her own voice and doesn't try to scream, belt, and melisma her way through every note. Fantasia sounds like Ms. Gray on hallucinatory drugs. This is the best Fox could do?

And can't anyone just sing the friggin' anthem with something resembling a beat, or at least a consistent key? It isn't about how many ****ing melismas you can fit in one note, it's about singing the **** song. Dammit.[/rant]

re: Dreamgirls Movie

I like Fantasia more than the other contestants on AI. LaToya was the best one. Too bad she was voted off. I loved when she sang Somewhere from West Side Story.

re: Dreamgirls Movie

A fellow LaToya fan!!! I also liked her version of "Dont Rain on My Parade." Oh and I NEVER EVER EVER want to even hear the words Beyonce, Broadway,or musical in the same sentence. Lets keep her away from anything that combines singing and acting, b/c let's face it, the story will get pushed aside and the play, movie, whatever, will become another "Look how great Beyonce is!" vehicle. Not saying I don't like her, b/c i do but ONLY in the R&B/Pop world.

Rant over now

re: Dreamgirls Movie

*shakes head* Beyonce's acting stunned me for how absolutely horrible it was. I like her voice, though. M*ch*ll* W*ll**ms doesn't derserve to be on Broadway. And don't even mention the EVIL INCARNATE'S name to me. I'm guessing you know who I'm talking about, Delphine. I do whine about her constantly. It's our own little hate club.

re: Dreamgirls Movie

Whoa! It's a lot of hatin' goin on in this discussion. I'm not gonna focus on the negative though. This would be my ideal movie cast.

Deena- Beyonce (The role is so close to her it wouldn't take much for her to get a grasp of it. Plus she has very good box office appeal. Alternatives would be Aaliyah, (I think she's an even better fit than Beyonce vocally R.I.P), Taral Hicks would also be a very good choice. I'm not sure how old she is though. I think about 30, which is manageable. Gabrielle Union would be great, but she's already admitted she cant sing.

Effie - If only I could put Jen H in a time machine! I'd like the role to go to an outstanding unknown, but for fun I'd have to agree that Frenchie Davis is the best choice. I also like Jen. Hudson from this season's AI for the role. Vocally, I think she can do more than Frenchie, but Frenchie has more presence.

Lorrell -Fantasia is a good pick though they would definitly have to "beautify" her so she could be a Dream. Her voice is defintly comparable to Loretta Divine. They've both got that high, gravely, shrill type voice. Fantasia also reminds me a lot of Nell Carter so that's another plus.

Michelle - Ashanti! That would be bad but funny az heyal!

Curtis- Jamie Foxx (After the Ray Charles movie comes out it might not be such a good idea)

CC - R.L. (From the group Next)

Jimmy- Wayne Brady ( I've disliked this man in everything he's done. He's too corny for my liking, but he has a built in audience who loves him and would come and see the movie. Plus I'm soft on him since he sang "Family" on his show)

re: Dreamgirls Movie

Wayne Brady?! That would be hilarious!

Anyways, I am the only one who thinks Ashanti's voice is only alright? It's deep, rough, and husky. It works for her, and I like it, but I wouldn't want her to try to tackle anything she can't vocally handle.
#47

re: Dreamgirls Movie

I cant stand Ashanti. Her singing voice works for R&B songs but it would be horrible at musical theater. Plus her speaking voice is so irritating.
#49

re: Dreamgirls Movie

I cant believe you people are actually suggesting more popstars doing Broadway shows. Have we not seen how terribly wrong that goes?

re: Dreamgirls Movie

This really is turning into a hate thread, isn't it? Oh well, that's how I like it.

Personally, I approve of stunt casting, just not some of the stunt casting we been seeing of late.

Now that I think about it, it would seem we are out to get the stars if the do less than stellar in their roles, but we completely ignore all the other bad actors on Broadway. I know there's a difference, and that the stars are hired for a reason, but I do think it's somewhat unfair to attack them. Besides, how bad are Joey and Melanie in reality? Compared to certain others in their roles, not so bad.

Sorry for my lack of eloquence. I'll edit that later so it actually makes sense.
