Did people claped during "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" when you saw Dreamgirls? Me and my cousin witnessed that on Thursday. LOL.
I've seen the movie twice, once on Christmas night and once again yesterday afternoon.
Christmas day: It was the worst moviegoing experience I have ever witnessed for one of the best movies I've seen this year. The entire audience was talking on their cell phones, the lights were on, people were coming and going the ENTIRE time, groups were standing up and just having full-on, raucous conversations... yet, when "And I Am Telling You..." began, the commotion seemed to stop and a quiet concentration came over the audience. After J-Hud belted out those last notes, everyone began to applaud loudly. Then they got loud again...
Yesterday Afternoon: The audience was MUCH more respectful, and the lights were off. This crowd also erupted into applause after "And I Am Telling You..." and a few people actually stood up. It was alot of fun. They did the same after "I Am Changing", "One Night Only", and "Listen" as well.
That usually never happens during a movie. Only to a few. Well at least that's what I think cause down south NOBODY goes wild after a good movie or during one.
This is O.T. but one of my friends said when she saw Star Wars:Attack of the Clones, people were applauding during Yoda's fight with Christopher Lee's character. Updated On: 12/30/06 at 03:04 PM
Becoz...
I'm not gonna lie, I applauded during that scene as well! Seeing the tiny green dude going ape sh*t with a lightsaber was just the high point of that movie!
When I saw it two days ago, there was applause. There were only about 20 people in the audience, but after "And I'm Telling You..." we all burst into applause. I've never seen that happen before.
Yeah people did when I saw it-- the audience was pretty small though.
Some woman started clapping after I am Changing too haha.
I saw 50 people when I saw it.
The crowd yesterday afternoon at the Ziegfeld was a very mature and respectful one, but they sure showed their love for the musical and the great performances from the cast. The digital sound in the theater was so perfect and loud it drowned out anything anyway, but the applause and screaming for each song (especially before, during and after AIATYING) was very loud. It reminded me of a very appreciative and excited Broadway audience - since the Ziegfeld was originally a live venue it felt as if we were at a Broadway show (I heard many people commenting on that when we were filing in). We applauded during the "curtain calls" and were anxious for the "And introducing ... Jennifer Hudson" part so that we could erupt into even louder applause. It was a great experience.
When I went (Christmas day) the theater was just about full. The show started and people just kept talking and talking. The talking finally stopped about fifteen minutes in. When we got to "And I Am Telling You..." people started freaking out. Everyone was like "this is the song! this is the song!" I just wanted to shout "Yes, we know, now please shut up so we can actually listen to it." But I just sat there and zoned everyone out. It finally got quiet about thirty seconds into the song and then a loud burst of applause on her last note.
The worst was that people came out of other movies and into this one, and would just talk and talk. I hate that.
Anyway, I'm getting aggravated just thinking about it. I still enjoyed the film immensely, none the less.
My audience applauded three times during AIATY, after "Family," "I Am Changing," the "This time, Effie White is gonna win" part, and JHud's name in the credits.

Rainbow, the Ziegfeld was never a live venue. It was always a movie theatre. There was an original legit Ziegefled that was torn down in the 60's. The movie theatre was so named out of respect for the loss of the beautiful legit theatre that the amazing Joseph Urban built!
1st - No applause (Press Viewing)
2nd - Yes (including me)
3rd - Yes (including me)

All 3 times I've seen it there was applause! And alot of "You go girls" etc. All 3 times the theatre was sold out too (400+ auditoriums)
There was definitely applause after "telling you" and definitely none after Beyonce'. There was also applause during the end credits but only for Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy, the actor playing C.C. (don't remember his name) and Danny Glover. Again, no applause for Beyonce and none for Anika Rose either.
i saw it for a second time this afternoon and it was a very good showing. people clapped after family, aiatying, i am changing, and the "this time effie white is gonna win" line.
my favorite though was after the second cadillac car this guy sitting behind me was like "oh HELL no!" when it got really quiet. he obviously did the same thing after one night only.
people at my viewing clapped after "AND I AM TELLING YOU" and "LISTEN".
hm, in my experience.. i have had people stand up and clap at the END of a movie [some of which i have started myself =D ] but never in the middle after a scene. how cool, it must've been really amazing. i've gotta go and see it soon!
My brother and I started the applause at my showing, and a few others joined in. If I could of, I would have stood up, but I didn't!

Yes, and after Listen, and at the end of the film. It was all very docile, but the audience was very affectionate to the film. A lot of them seemed to have known the musical too and were an older crowd, I was very pleased!
Oh, and the funniest part...when Deena was leaving Curtis, someone in the audience said "To the left, to the left..." Everyone started laughing.
i saw it tonight and everyone was hooping and hollaring and applauding after every number...it was so great!
There were many times during the movie were ppl clapped after and im tell you and listen after both of them ppl stood up, including me...
