TCM plays the "Director's Cut" version. It has "Cool, Considerate Men", but it does not have the full "Piddle, Twiddle...".

When I saw it two days ago, there was applause. There were only about 20 people in the audience, but after "And I'm Telling You..." we all burst into applause. I've never seen that happen before.

I don't think the orchestrations are bad. I think in some places they work and some places they don't. I heard a noticable (and not great) change in "Master of the House", but I was pleasantly surprised with "I Dreamed a Dream". The new orchestrations just take a while to get used to if you've heard Les Mis before.

I was in Row F, way at the end of the row, partial view seats, but they were still very good. The only person I couldn't see when all the dancers were lined up was Diana. So it wasn't too bad.

One of my problems with the show was that I never saw Grace as a "pirate". She was a strong female leader, yes, but pirate? Not really. We heard about her pirating from the English, but I could never really see her character doing some of those things. The swordfighting was a little sloppy, which probably added to my disbelief, though.

I'm not usally a Rubin-Vega fan, but I really liked her as Fantine. She sounds lke she's dying, and she sounds like she's miserable (as most of the characters in Les Mis are...). She's pouring her heart out on the stage, but she's not supposed to sound perfect. Daphne puts raw emotion into it, and really acts the role. She makes Fantine into something new; she doesn't just sing a couple of pretty songs and die.

When I saw Hairspray, my mother was convinced that Jerry O'Boyle was a woman! I had to point out his picture in the Playbill before she would believe that he was really a guy. So he really did do a great job!

When I saw Victor Hawks, it wasn't just that Javert was towering over him, it's that, during the first act at least, he didn't have enough command of the stage. If he had been a little more comfortable with the role, and took command of the stage from the start, it wouldn't have mattered so much that he wasn't tall. But during the second act he really got it together. His "Bring Him Home" was very strong.

Daphne was really nice at the stagedoor last night. She made sure not just to sign people's playbills, she really tried to chat with everyone. She was really funny. "This show is so great; it's actor-proof. So everyone's happy, even if I suck." The girl she was talking to said, "But you didn't' you were great!" She looked really touched. Everyone seemed nice at the Les Miz stagedoor.

As for the Valjean understudies, I saw Victor Hawks last night. They warned us at the beginning that he had "minimal rehearsal". He really seemed to set on getting all the notes out that he forgot to act the role. He had a very nice voice though; he could hit all the notes. But I didn't hear much change in his performance; he sounded the same when he died as when he got out of the chain gang. He was also a little short for Valjean; Norm Lewis seemed to be towering over him. But, even with min...

Mine kinda started out with Wicked when I was ten or eleven, but Les Miz really started my Broadway obsession. I'm going to see it in a week. :)

When I was at the Pirate Queen on the Oct. 21st, about a quater of the audience gave an ovation for Hadley Fraser, and then everyone got to their feet for Stephanie J. Block. But there were no standing ovations before that.

This one seems to happen a lot, but I always find it so funny: (After Hairspray) Mother: That white woman must have weighed over 400 pounds! Daughter: Which one, Edna or Tract? Mother: The mother Daughter: Uh, mom, you do know that that was a man, right? Mother: NO, it couldn't have been! I mean, she had a chest! She had cleavage! Daughter: (Looking in Playbill) Mom, his name is Jerry... I was in giggling fits after hearing that...

I got my tickets for the 11th. :) Can't wait!! I missed it the last time it came around here (why do I always miss these things?!) so this will be my first time seeing it :)

Yeah, I asked my parents why we were taking him, it's because the airplane ticket says that he's a child, so we can't bring an adult, and the only other kids we could think of bringing come from a family of nine, so we couldn't bring one without hurting someone else's feelings. He seesm to really like the Wedding Singer (I have it playing and he thinks it's awesome.) Hopefully he just won't notice the bad words. If we're going to a night preformance he won't be quite as alert (all that energy...

My parents are coming along too. That is why I can't give him a sleeping pill. I'm 14, and it's my parents decision on who we bring along. I'm just the one making decisions about Broadway, because my parents know nothing about it, and trust my judgement in what to see. I'm not exactly hoping he'll fall asleep by at two, but that's what happened last time...

He's just not one for musicals. He's a very impatient little devil. He's nine right now, but I'm jsut taking from the last time we saw a musical with him(Wicked). That was when he was seven, so maybe he's changed. I'm looking for a show we could all enjoy, but would be age-appropriate for him.

Brother, not son But I completely agree with you. But I think it's a waste of money to bring him along at all. I wish my parents would see that...

"I am really confused. Why in the world are you paying to take the child to see an expensive Broadway show so he can fall asleep?" I'm all against taking him. But he has to go or we can't see the show *sigh* But knowing him, the second he gets bored, or the second he gets tired, he's asleep. Unless we're seeing a matinee, in which case, I have no idea what we'll do with him. I'd like to bring one of my cousins with..but my parents think that the rest will be jealous, which I understand comple...

I'm thinking The Wedding Singer or Spelling Bee. I have the cast recording for Wedding singer and the only words he might want to know about (in the music at least) are in the second act, and by that time he will be fast asleep (hopefully). I don't have the cast recording for Spelling Bee (One more reason for a trip out to Barnes and Noble!) I would personally like to see Sweeney Todd. Or is that way too creepy? (I know the music is, but I don't know the story too well, forgive me :P)
