Looks like Dreamworks has pulled everything from ComicCon two days before the presentation. I love the fact that they’re playing stupid. They have NO IDEA what people are talking about… How did this information get out that we were going to preview anything?
Clearly, there is something with the film. Nice try Dreamworks.

Well they are dumb.
Comic-Con was/is a great opportunity. The film could have potentially reached an audience that this (and really only this) musical could tap in to. Plus December is only 5 months away- most likely they will begin promotion next month - but really is one month early hamrmful? no.
May be they are Bs-ing and will make some suprise thing - but thats just me wishing.
No clue if there's something wrong with Sweeney or not, and I have never been to a ComicCon, but from what I've been hearing from friends 'in the biz,' aren't a bunch of other studios pulling their stuff from ComicCon (Fox with everything, and DreamWorks with the Farrelly Bros movie The Heartbreak Kid, are two that I've heard about), because ComicCon now has to show "family-friendly" G rated promos, because of all the people bringing their kids and such?
That comicCon started cracking down this year because of complaints of Oh Noez teh Nekkid! in the Borat clip that was screened there last year? And so studios are pulling their clips from ComicCon, rather than have to submit 'boring' G rated versions of PG-13/R rated movies' clips?
/That's just what I've been hearing.

All trailers need to be G-rated too (you knowm when at the movies "this preview has been approved for all audiences," etc)... so, that might not be the only reason for pulling the clips...

No, that is not true that all trailers need to be G rated. Have you ever seen trailers at a scary movie. They certainly aren't G!!!
ComicCon has never been a family friendly zone. This was the place that screened '300' last year to acclaim.
When you see the GREEN screen that means it's for 'general audiences' so it's an all applicable trailer made for even Rated R films (it plays on every film -- PG, R, etc.).
If it's a RED screen, that means it's a 'mature audiences' trailer and contains rated R level footage, etc.
I have never seen a red screen before - is that a new practice?

I see them occasionally, but very rarely.
It's common for studios to cancel PLANNED promotions due to marketing reasons, approval issues, film issues, "the waiting game," etc.

I don't think they are all that new, just rather unusual to see. Even in rated R movies I don't see many R rated previews.
I've NEVER seen a red one before...

Then you should get out more and see some movies made for adults, maybe.
I've seen "red band" trailers several times in main-stream movie houses but more often than not before art-house screenings.
The Showgirls trailer was one of the first ones I remember being a "red band"

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Wow.
is there a number that I can call about this? I really wanted to go!
Damn it! I was so looking forward to these clips!
They can show R-rated trailers at R-rated movies.
They can't show trailers that have a stricter rating than the feature film being shown.
Sorry to hear they're pulling this. But as we've already heard, Sweeney will be a bloody film, and I can't imagine them being able to cut a G-rated trailer that had any impact, especially for the Comic-Con crowds.
It was probably a good idea to pull it.
Is comic-con's crowd really that young??
Are there not Mystique's from Xmen walking around with their stuff all hanging out?
The demographic target is largely 13-18 year old males.

Try 13-30
Actually the 18-25 crowd is the second demographic.
But I agree that 30 is the new 18 these days.
i am excited to see what its all about.
As sad as this is - I am taking my Ultra Clutch can and getting photos with Cosplay people as I "spray" their hair. My goal is to find Chewbacca. :)
Here's a piece from the L.A. Times ComicCon Watch page, that explains this probably far better than I was. :) Emphasis mine. Again, not saying that this has anything to do with anything about Sweeney, but just that this is what's been going on with the studios/ComicCon in general...
Organizers of San Diego-based Comic-Con came to Los Angeles and held a meeting with the studios earlier this summer to talk about, among other things, making sure that movie preview materials did not contain anything that would be considered so edgy that it would otherwise be age-rated or seen in an R-rated, red-band trailer.
This is the first year that convention organizers have made it mandatory that studios preview materials for officials before presenting them, said David Glanzer, Comic-Con's marketing honcho. Organizers have had a long-standing rule for reviewing materials, "but we haven't been very diligent about it," he said. Officials hoped to jettison any R-rated material by setting their preview deadline for the studios earlier than usual this year.

Doubtful that relates to Sweeney- I cant imagine it being THAT violent. But who knows...
Perhaps Burton made something- they didn't approve and he refused to re-cut the footage.
Okay, so the question now becomes, when and where will a Sweeney trailer be premiered? It's going to be out in less than six months. It'd be cool to at least have a teaser...
