I wasn't sure anyone knew I never really tried to fully out anyone.

I also think it's odd that Sutton has apparently had a change of heart about stage dooring, particularly since the Drowsy stage door is not that crowded. I think most if not all of the cast was all set within 5 minutes or less. I wonder if something happened at some point.

Also, isn't Christian Borle still in Spamalot? Doesn't Spamalot end 30 - 40 minutes after Drowsy does (which means he wouldn't get to her dressing room until Drowsy was over for 45 minutes or more)? If she's waiting for him to show up, she might as well come out the stage door when the two of them leave because not too many people would still be waiting.

I don't know about Sutton at the Drowsy stage door in New York, but I can say that in LA, she came out and was a complete doll. The only reason she didn't come out the 1st time I saw the show was because there was a benefit that the cast had to go to. She actually apologized for not coming out that day when I met her the next time I saw the show.

I'd like to meet Sutton and have her sign my Drowsy poster when I see the show next month, but I would feel strange waiting for her to come before the show. For people who have actually done this, does she really not mind?

If you recognize her, she really doesn't mind. They're all dolls. Sutton gets there at about noon on matinee days, 6 for evening shows.

I'm selfishly disappointed that I probably won't see Sutton at the stage door when I see Drowsy. However, I do know that over the years she has encountered a lot of fan(atics)...I don't mean to be disrespectful to anyone, I swear. But I wonder if someone just went a little too far and it has pushed her to not be as giving or available after a performance.

I've met her many times and she is always very sweet. I'm sure she has a very good reason for her lack of appearances during this run.

Reviving this ole' thread...

I know that the Marquis stage door is next to Broadway New York, but I haven't actually remembered to look for it when I'm there. Is it on the 45th Street side of the store, or the side that's under the hotel's covered "drive-thru"? Is it even marked "Stage Door"? Also, I gather from these posts that Sutton and Georgia are the ones that typically don't appear but the rest of the cast is pretty regular--am I wrong?

Heh, sorry for the questions...I just saw Drowsy for the first time yesterday, fell in love with the cast, and tomorrow I'm getting to the box office as soon as I can to grab another ticket for later this month. If I don't stage door this next time (*must see Bob Martin*), I'll never forgive myself.

If you're facing the hotel, it's to the left (I'm not familiar enough to know the street off the top of my head... 45th?) Anyway, it's behind a pilar and clearly marked "Stage Door"

I'm not sure that anyone knows who she is dating but I'll out it anyway. Its someone from Spamalot.

Was that a joke?

Anyway, it seems weird to me that she wouldn't come out. She seems like such a nice person (I have only met her once). When I saw Little Women she came out and was very sweet.

I however did find the door she exits through and did eventually did get her autograph.
That kind of defeats the purpose of her leaving through another door. If she wants to leave without having to see people, and even goes to the effort of leaving through another door, why would you want to disrespect that? It's like during SWIWS and people tried to find the other door Idina was coming out to wait for her. There's obviously some reason she didn't want to see people.

I agree, staking out her secret exit and waiting for her there is kind of shady.

It's actually kinda hard to find if you are unaware of it's location. Was there a few weeks ago and EVERYONE was so great coming out. Especially Bob Martin, Lenny, Danny B and Beth L who was so considerate and made sure everyone got an autograph...this from a TONY WINNER! Love her and everyone in Drowsy.

Whoever said that after the show the only autograph you'll need is Bob Martin's anyway was totally right. Ha. He was the only one my friend and I caught coming out of the stage door and we were totally satisfied.

I didn't see Sutton and wasn't expecting to. It just seemed logical to me that she'd wait until her hubby's show had ended so they could go home together. So that's another 45 minutes right there, plus the the time it would take him to get dressed and work the stage door - when the Marquis stage door attendant said no one else would be coming out I just assumed that it wasn't that Sutton had left through another exit it was just that she wasn't going to be coming out for a good while.

Just to clear the speculation as to why Sutton has not been coming out for this show so often...She's said in some interviews she has had a lot going on lately. From moving to a new apartment and settling all those payments, to adopting a new puppy, to planning her wedding, and not to even mention her demanding role (even though it's not a huge role, could you imagine how exhausting "Show Off" is?), she has a LOT on her plate. SO I'd assume it's kind of...go home and plop into bed for her. You can't blame her. I wouldn't call it a "change of heart;" she seems to love meeting and talking to the fans. It's probably just a little much right now.

Also? I wouldn't recommend hunting out the other door she goes out. I'm sure she's not the type to really mind it--she's the sweetest girl on the planet--but it's just rude. Catch her another time.

I agree. Just let her exit out the other door in peace.

And Beth Leavel was a total doll and oh so funny at the stage door!

I agree as well. Let Sutton and Georgia have their privacy. I am sure they have their reasons for not coming out of the stage door.

Sutton is extremely nice before shows. I saw Drowsy on a Friday night and she did not come out (Although I was thrilled to meet Beth Leavel and Bob Martin). The next day before the matinee, I waited for her to arrive, got my poster autographed and got a picture with her. She is an absolute sweetheart.

I second Sutton being really sweet before the show.

I wasn't able to see "Drowsy" during my trip to NY this week, but really wanted to meet Sutton, so after being advised by a fellow BWW-er, I planned to go to the stage door before the show on Thursday.

I thought the show was at seven, and was told by someone that when they went she got there at around 5:15, so my plan was to get there around five. My Dad and I ended up being in the area at around 4:30, and figured we could just hang out till then. (For those that are wondering, the stage door isn't that hard to find. It is next to the second pillar by the Broadway NY store, and has "Stage Door" stamped on both the door and wall outside it in white. The door is usually open, and the attendant was very friendly, as were the people in the gift shop.) I wandered around in the Broadway NY store and bought a "Drowsy Chaperone" window card for Sutton to sign, as well as a sharpie, and hung around outside at around five. My Dad asked the attendant what time Sutton usually got there, and he said between five and five thirty most days, so I figured it wouldn't be much of a wait...

Around 6:30, I started to get nervous, since I hadn't seen any of the principle cast members go in (I was the only one there) and it was getting pretty close to what I thought was showtime. Turns out the show started at EIGHT that night (as I was informed by a woman who worked at the theater as she exited out the door.) Around that time, I saw Jennifer Smith (Kitty) enter, but she looked busy so I didn't bother approaching her. I also saw Georgia Engel, but she literally ran in, so I didn't talk to her either. Closer to seven, I spotted Beth Leavel coming down the street in a "Drowsy" t-shirt, and figured she must have performed at Broadway in Bryant Park that day. She had a whole bundle of things in her hand, so I didn't bother her for a picture or anything, but I did congratulate her on the Tony and said how much I enjoy her on the cast recording, and she couldn't have been nicer about it, saying thank you and everything. Right after Beth went in, two teenage girls arrived, so I was no longer the only one there. One got out her Playbill to show the other one what Sutton looked like so she could keep an eye open for her, so I knew they too were there to meet her.

Finally, around five minutes after seven, I saw Sutton coming down the street. I took the poster out and my Dad handed me the sharpie, and she smiled and waved. I asked her if she could sign (I said if she was running late I'de understand,) and couldn't have been sweeter, saying it was no problem. She gave me a hug, and asked if I'de seen the show (I said I wanted to but loved her in everything else she'de done,) and as my Dad got out the camera to take the picture, she asked if that was my Dad and if we were having a good time in NY. He snapped the picture, and I said thank you. She waved goodbye and thanked me for waiting so long for her, and went over to talk to the two girls. As I started to walk away, my Dad didn't, and I turned around to see why he wasn't behind me when I see him go up to Sutton as she is going inside and the little girls are walking away. He asks if we could take on more picture just in case the other one didn't come out, and she said sure!! She joked about posing on the opposite side this time so we could "catch her glamarous side," and my Dad apologized and said he knew she had to go in for the show. She was very cute about it, and said "Yes Dad, I have to get all dolled up you know!" and patted me on the back. We took the picture and left, but I was just amazed at how friendly she was.

What time would you recommend getting to the stage door before a night peformance to catch Sutton going in? Around 6? Thanks.

Getting there at 6 is good, if you want to catch the other actors, also. They all usually get there about an hour-hour-and-a-half early.
