ECLIPSED particularly loud audience--anyone else?

I was thrilled to finally see Eclipsed last night, but I couldn't believe how rude the audience was. I sat in the back center row of the orchestra, and people were talking through the entire first act. There was also a loud beeping noise continually going off (hearing aid?) and people talking behind us in the lobby. I've never experience that level of ambient noise during a play before. Has anyone else had the same experience with the play? Any insight as to why?

Maybe it was a school group? I saw it on Sunday and didn't think the noise was anything out of the ordinary...I was on the front row though.

I don't think it was a school group, although I've definitely been there. It seemed to be mostly a few older theater-goers. Our guess is that maybe they couldn't understand the dialogue? Not a problem we had, but a problem someone who's hard of hearing and sitting in the back row could presumably have.

When I went I had 6 super chatty girls in back of me. Most were bored and making it known to most of us just how bored they were. In front of me there were 3 girls who just wouldn't shut up. On both sides of me were older ladies that had listening devices that were turned all the way up so everything said onstage was heard through those things. One was buy herself so she was ok but the other one was with people and still kept asking them out loud what was said.

It was a freaking nightmare.

Was the theater full? I saw the play in late March and audience was fine. No noise. In fact, parts were soooo silent that it was eerie after the gun shots.

Anyways, when I went, the theater was probably at 60% capacity. So if it were noisy, I would have asked for a seat relocation.

Didn't have an issue when I saw the show but my question for those who did. Did any of you speak to an usher/house manager?

"I hope your Fanny is bigger than my Peter." Mary Martin to Ezio Pinza opening night of Fanny.

Huss, I didn't -- if it had been a specific one or two people, I would have. But it was essentially the entire back part of the orchestra. And the hearing-aid/sound-device noise wasn't anything they could have helped anyway, I would guess.

And the orchestra was almost at 100%, not sure what the mezz looked liked.
