Just saw it's on TDF for the WED mat. I don't know if it's been up before or not.

Posted: 12/2/08 at 5:26amI'm not suprised. The box office hasn't been selling terribly well. Which is sad, I thought the production was amazing. I wouldn't be suprised if they pull out early.

Saw it tonight. Very good (not great) production, but, man, can Griffiths and Radcliffe act! Radcliffe was obviously ill; his voice raspy and coughing intermittently throughout, but he still gave an outstanding performance and knocked it out of the park! And Griffiths, who I never could see in the role, was excellent! He gave a subdued, naturalistic and nuanced performance and brought a warmth and likeability to the character that I haven't seen in previous productions. Despite mixed reviews, I found Kate Mulgrew's performance very good, as well. A consummate professional, she had no problem holding her own against Griffiths. All in all, an excellent night of theatre! Unfortunately, the house was probably less than two-thirds full and the crowd, while well behaved, wasn't the most enthusiastic. It always amazes me at what does and doesn't get a standing ovation. If ever there were two performances that deserved one, Griffiths' and Radcliffe's was it. But, beside me, not one person that I could see stood during the mostly tepid curtain call. Go figure.

I think what you describe it the same as mob mentality. People are TOO aware of their actions and don't want to be singled out. If others (plural) aren't standing, they won't either.
But I agree: Griffiths and Radcliffer were phenominal! I expect Tony Nominations for both and could truly see Griffiths winning.

It's not that surprising. I was at the matinee yesterday and got a good view of how empty the house was from the on-stage seats. In the orchestra the sides sections only had the first four seats (if that) in from the center aisle occupied and the center section had a few scattered empties. In the mezzanine there were large chunks of empty seats and the on-stage seating was half full. Good show though.
