pfft. South Park is an awesome movie musical. Y'all are just haters.

And, yes, Sondheim called it the best movie musical he'd seen in recent history. Matt and Trey reportedly wrote to him saying "We think you've done some good work, too."

I can't fathom why they would put Hairspray ahead of The Sound of Music.

I also think South Park is brilliantly clever, original and obviously WAY entertaining.

the list is actually pretty good considering it's a mass media list. Wizard of Oz, WSS, Cabaret, Singin in the Rain and Sound of Music were the top 5 of AFI's movie musical list. It seems to be a little Astaire-heavy, but aside from Busby Berkeley and Hairspray (which is decent, but not better than G&D or Oliver), I'm rather okay with it.

Sound of Music is amaaaaazing.


I know it's considered pretty terrible, but I grew up watching the original Annie film-- Burnett and Finney alone make it a oft-viewed film in my dvd player..they are pure genius.

Totally agree. To forget Sweeney Todd is just unacceptable.

Hairspray should not have been on that list, let alone before Sound of Music. What about My Fair Lady?? or Guys and Dolls? The Music Man should have definitely been before Chicago and I think Rent should have at least been on there somewhere...
I am however, THRILLED that South Park was mentioned. That movie is pure genius.

Ugh, I enjoyed Once but it definitely not deserving of a spot on this list.

And Hairspray?

South Park BLU so high?
