I'm going to see "South Pacific" tonight, and I'm pretty excited, but what's the easiest way to get to the theater? I can only take the Q train from where I am, so usually just take that straight to Times Square, but how do I get up to Lincoln Center? I know they're doing construction, so I can't really picture what the theater looks like now.
#1 train, and I'm sure there will be signs to guide you around the construction.

Well, I was up there the other day for work, and I couldn't figure out where the theater was because they've uprooted that big fountain, and I couldn't see the neon signs.
As you're heading west, the Vivian Beaumont is in the far right corner of the complex. That's the northwest corner of the plaza, to the right of the Met and the left of Avery Fisher.
It's also across the street from the new dormitory at Juilliard.
I was there in August and since I knew it was there somewhere I just followed my nose, and the crowds, and the tiny, temporary signs.
As an actress friend of mine said to me before my very first trip to Manhattan, "You'll be fine, baby!"

THIS GOES TO PIRAGUAGUY2
Second star to the right and straight on till morning.
Actually the signage there is quite good - you just have to slow down and read it and you'll find your way. Most folks I see getting lost around there are trying to dart around and don't stop to read first.

Actually, many people do. You're just a little sad.
It's to the right of the Metropolitan Opera (as you are looking at it). Take the 1 train. You can either go up the stairs on 65th street, just past Avery Fisher's stage door and then make a right to go straight to the theater, or enter from Columbus Avenue, go straight along Avery Fish and then go to the right and then a left down that same walkway to the theater. The entrance into lower area (where the Newhouse and box office are) from 65th Street might be closed by now. A crane is being installed.
Also if you plan on stage-dooring the door has moved from the original location. It is now further down away from 65th street and closer to the stage door for the Met Opera.

Thanks everyone. Well, I knew that I needed to take the 1 - the billboards all say "take the 1," but I wasn't sure where I was going once I got there. I figured I'd see it all, but it sounds confusing, so I'll just read the signs and hope I get there on time. Thanks!

PraguaGuy2: I think you're funny!
Lincoln Center is now pretty much one giant maze with all the walls up for the construction. I knew my way around there very well prior to all the walls being put up. So, for me to find it when I saw South Pacific this summer was no problem. But, I can easily see how it would be for someone who doesn't know the area that well. The theatre is tucked in the back right hand corner next to the Met and the library.
It's really not that much of a maze anymore. The construction in front of the Met is finished, so there are walls creating the path to the Beaumont and the walls around the fountain. A good chunk of the staircase will be opened up by Monday, as will a lot of the sidewalk around Juilliard.
The real maze is underground.

Thanks, Lynne.
:)
frogs_fan85, I guess they are making progress. I did work at the library there Friday of Columbs Day Weekend and it was still like that when I was there. I guess things are somewhat starting to come along. I have heard word that the new Tully Hall might not be done on time.
I want to know how this all turned out!
Alice Tully doesn't have to be done really until February and it is moving along just fine. We get updates every week at work.
Ugh, when I tried to get to Lincoln Center I actually got lost on the subway for fifteen minutes. Since I don't live in NYC I suppose it was okay, but still, I had never gotten lost on the subway prior to that and have not since.
So, in answer to your question, get a cab. :p

I wonder if the helicopter from Miss Saigon is available? All jokes aside the 1 train is the best way..
