Okay, I know this has been discussed to death but I can't seem to find any information when I search the board.
I have a friend coming into town this weekend and I want to try for lottery seats. Which lotteries are the easiest to win these days? Is Spelling Bee the only one that starts 30 minutes later than the others? And are the DRS seats really only in the boxes? What is the view like from the boxes?
Thanks for any and all info.
I think HAIRSPRAY is pretty easy to win. SPELLING BEE always gets the spill off from WICKED. DRS isn't difficult, but those box seats are fairly obstructed view. RENT lottery used to be the absolute easiest but it began to get popular again after the film came out. Haven't heard how the TARZAN or CHAPERONE lotteries are. CHAPERONE might be a good one to try.

The only lottery I've ever done was Spelling Bee, and I won. Yes, it does start later than all the others. I think about half the people won, and from what I hear on here that is normal.
Hairspray is REALLY easy. Sometimes, I've gone down there 30 minutes before the shows started and asked to buy lottery tickets - which they WILL SELL TO YOU if they didn't have enough people show up for lottery.
It's a great bet and the show is in pretty good shape right now.
Spelling Bee wasnt too bad, even with the people who come from Wicked. I've done it 4 times and never lost. I've only done (and won) Avenue Q once, during Winter break, and there was like no one there but apparantly thats rare? Those are the only ones I have done, except for Wicked, which I have lost twice, its impossible.
I always found AVENUE Q kind of difficult to win because they give away so few tickets. But perhaps it's evened out a bit. It used to be that WICKED and Q were the only lotteries in town.
Hairspray lotto seats are in the front row of the orchestra. The view is great and the stage is not too far up, so you're not straining your neck to watch. The lotto is fairly easy for matinees, but the crowd sometimes gets bigger for the night shows. I will be trying for the matinee this Saturday, maybe I will see you there!
Thanks for all the info everyone. I think I want to try for Spelling Bee and then if we don't win that, maybe we'll walk over to Hairspray and see if we can pick up an extra lotto ticket that maybe didn't sell.

on any given day, between 50 and 200 people show up at Tarzan
You can still do the Hairspray lotto before Spelling Bee. They start taking names three hours before the show, and draw 30 minutes later. So even if you lose that, you can still go over to do the Spelling Bee lotto. Don't forget that Spelling Bee also has standing room tickets available for lotto price if the show isn't sold out, which you can ask about after the lotto winners buy there tickets.
Whichever show you win for, you'll have a great time!
Yeah, but I would rather go to Spelling Bee so I want to try that first. I have a certain amount of luck winning lottos so I would rather put off Hairspray.
I wish DRS still had the lotto in the front row as that would have been my first choice.

Hairspray is a crap shoot sometimes though. Sometimes its been insanely easy...other times theres a ton of people. Though like most lottos, matinees are easier than nights. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the Hairspray crowds that I can figure out. One Sat night shortly before Christmas, we showed up and there were 5 people, which we found odd considering those are the weeks attendance and numbers are up....a few weeks later after the holidays crowds were done, there were 55 people..go figure.
Bee and DRS are usually better odds than say Wicked or Q. Good luck!
When I won the DRS lotto, I was in the front row...
Yeah, I won DRS lotto at least twice when it was the front row and I loved it. I was very disappointed when they moved it to the box seats. I thought it was the back row of the balcony which wouldn't be THAT bad but box seats??? Awful!

"It used to be that WICKED and Q were the only lotteries in town."
How can that be true when RENT started the lottery fad?
DRS is easy and the seats aren't that bad. i mean, yeah, they are box seats, but if you get the far backseats in the boxes, they are good. if you win, you can ask for the farthest back box seats on the right. Those are good ones. you never know, they might give you them.
Rent had Starving Artist Tickets
Forgive me - For a while there, WICKED and Q were the only lotteries with any type of crowd. In it's slump days pretty much anyone who showed up won the RENT lottery.
I've won at Avenue Q and at DRS (back when the seats were in the front row)
I won DRS on my first try and Avenue Q on my second.
I've lost at Wicked once, though I never expected to win there...talk about a mob scene!
Drowsy may be good to hit up for now, but if it's as good as I'm hearing and word of mouth starts selling tickets, then watch out.
I think it just all depends on how lucky you get.
I won Wicked on my first try and there were probably around 200 prople there.
Avenue Q is usually packed.
I won DRS on my 5th try but it was so worth it, I heard it's easy on Wednesdays.
But Hairspray is the easiest.

Hairspray is usually a pretty good bet, but I think one should ntoe that it's gotten much more crowded lately, probably because of Diana Degarmo. If you go on a weekday, you'll probably win without even having to draw names, but Friday, Saturday, and Sunday have been MUCH more crowded lately. As has the stage door.

This was not on Broadway, but last week I participated in the Wicked lottery in Philadelphia. There were about 50-60 people in it for 20 tickets. I figured I had no chance and was shocked when I was the next to last name drawn (And would have been the last if I had wanted 2 tickets). What makes this all the more incredible is this was the first ticket lottery I ever entered. I think I may try to take my luck to Broadway later this year.
