5. Have you seen any shows in London's West End? IF so how many? noneee
6. What was the best show you saw on Broadway? hmmm...omg its hard to choose one but i guess...
les miserables and DRACULA...omg yes and dont say anything about it haha! i hated it durin in previews...but it really shaped up and i ended up seeing it 3 more times...and its safe to say it is one of my FAVORITE shows!
7. And the worst? umm...little women...should have NEVER been made into a musical...i love the play...so i thought i would like it but i didnt at all...some of the actors were good but thats about it...it just shouldnt ahve been made into a musical. period.
8. The best show you have seen in london's West End? havent seen any..
9. And the worst? see above^^
10. If a show transferred from the West End to Broadway would you be more likely to be interested and go and see it? yes. well i havent traveled to the west end so broadways kinda of my only option...well that and nat. tours.
11. If a show was a Broadway transfer to the West End would you be more likely to go and see it? nooo. see aboveee hahah
12. Do you think from a performers point of view it is better to be in a musical playing in the West End or on Broadway? ummm...i think that I would be honored either way and it would be a fulfilling a dream of mine to get to that level. but that being said...broadway is just closer to home..and closer to my heart...broadway is my ultimate goal.

3. Nope, high school theater only (but only for now!)
4. 3 (Rent, Beauty and the Beast, and Annie Get Your Gun revival)
5. 2 (Anything Goes and the Reduced Shakespeare Company)
6. On Broadway? Probably Rent, just because I love it soooo much. But Annie Get Your Gun is a close second because I had Front Row Seats with Bernadette Peters.
7. The worst would have to be the only one left, Beauty and the Beast. Not that it was bad, but I had crappy seats and it just wasn't as memorable.
8. The Reduced Shakespeare Company was GREAT (even though it wasn't a musical). I really loved it.
9. Anything Goes simply because that's the only other one. I still really liked it though. I really loved John Barrowman (Billy) but some of the other leads weren't great.
10. Probably, because it's closer to me and Broadway is sort of the pinnicle (for me, at least).
11. Probably not more likly, but not any less likly (except for the fact that it would be a lot harder to get to!)
12. Both would be amazing but from my point of view probably Broadway because of the connotations it has for me.
13. I don't think there is much of a difference these days, they mesh together so often.
14. ??? I have no idea.
15. 5, maybe?

14. Probably not, Broadway is too diverse right now. Jukebox musicals could be successful but shouldn't be exclusive.

4. approximately how many shows have you seen on Broadway? 88 - I keep a list. Some were the same show multiple times though.
5. Have you seen any shows in London's West End? IF so how many? No
6. What was the best show you saw on Broadway? Urinetown
7. And the worst? James Joyce's the Dead. I think I was too young and just didn't get it.
8. The best show you have seen in london's West End? N/A
9. And the worst? N/A
10. If a show transferred from the West End to Broadway would you be more likely to be interested and go and see it? Not really... that doesn't really have any anything to do with my decision to see a show.
11. If a show was a Broadway transfer to the West End would you be more likely to go and see it? Not really
12. Do you think from a performers point of view it is better to be in a musical playing in the West End or on Broadway? On Broadway, just because it's what every performer strives for in the United States and it has the whole "If I can make it there, I'd make it anywhere" feel to it.
13. What do you think, if any, are the differences between a Broadway or a West End musical? Ummm, the performers have different accents? :p I also think things on Broadway tend to be "flashier" and more meant for tourists, but then again, I haven't seen anything in London so I don't know. I always think of London theater as being Shakespearean, and refined... but they have Mamma Mia, so...
14. Do you think an 1980's style take over a Broadway could happen again with the jukebox and film based musicals? Huh? What?
15. Using your own knowledge how many shows do you think are currently playing in both cities? A lot! There are like, what, around 35 in New York... maybe 20 in London? I'm not sure. My guess is over fifty.
1. how old are you? 13
2. where are you from?
3. Are you a professional entertainer? if so, in what area do you work? no
4. approximately how many shows have you seen on Broadway? many, over twenty!
5. Have you seen any shows in London's West End? IF so how many? 3
6. What was the best show you saw on Broadway? CoC, Amour, Taboo, Music Man, Assassins, Pacific OVertures. i love 'em all!
7. And the worst? aida
8. The best show you have seen in london's West End? taboo
9. And the worst? i loved 'em all!
10. If a show transferred from the West End to Broadway would you be more likely to be interested and go and see it? probably
11. If a show was a Broadway transfer to the West End would you be more likely to go and see it? go to London to see a broadway show? no!
12. Do you think from a performers point of view it is better to be in a musical playing in the West End or on Broadway? depends on where the preformer is from the circumstances
13. What do you think, if any, are the differences between a Broadway or a West End musical? content, splashiness
14. Do you think an 1980's style take over a Broadway could happen again with the jukebox and film based musicals? i hope not but can see it happening. GAH!
15. Using your own knowledge how many shows do you think are currently playing in both cities? over twenty, probably around 40 or something

2. London (don't currently live there though)
3. no (want to be though)
4. In NY (none, haven't been there yet) Seen many a tour in the US though. About 10 probably
5. Many. Many.
6. Tour not Broadway (Aida National Tour 2003)
7. Haven;t seen one I really didn't like. Least favorite was Funny Girl.
8. Les Miserables
9. see #7.
10. Depends on show. Definately if it was Billy Elliot or Lord of the Rings.
11. Depends on the show also
12. I would say Broadway.
13. Not sure since I've never been to NY.
14. God I hope not.
15. errr.
1. how old are you? 15
2. where are you from? Long Island, New York
3. Are you a professional entertainer? if so, in what area do you work? Not a professional entertainer, but I do 2 shows a year..at my highschool lol
4. approximately how many shows have you seen on Broadway? around 30
5. Have you seen any shows in London's West End? IF so how many? Only one, Arsenic and Old Lace
6. What was the best show you saw on Broadway? Oh wow, that's a toughie! I'd have to say RENT is right up there..it's so emotional.
7. And the worst? I haven't seen a "bad" show..maybe just one that didn't suit my fancy..Dance Of Death..that one kind of bored me.
8. The best show you have seen in london's West End? Only one, and it's the best I saw.
9. And the worst? N/A
10. If a show transferred from the West End to Broadway would you be more likely to be interested and go and see it? It depends on if it's a musical and who is in it.
11. If a show was a Broadway transfer to the West End would you be more likely to go and see it? No, because I can't get out to the West End..I'd probably see it before it transferred anyway if I wanted to see it that badly.
12. Do you think from a performers point of view it is better to be in a musical playing in the West End or on Broadway? Broadway..because it's more recognizable to tell a non-theatre goer "I'm on Broadway" rather than "I'm in a show on the West End" because they might not think that highly of you..although they should!!
13. What do you think, if any, are the differences between a Broadway or a West End musical? I think it depends on the audience..audiences in London received Taboo much better than in NYC, I'm guessing because Boy George is English..but in different places, there are different responses...not different shows..maybe different actor outlooks too..
14. Do you think an 1980's style take over a Broadway could happen again with the jukebox and film based musicals? It can happen but it might not go very far. If it's good, I say, let it stay on Broadway, BUT, don't take away classic shows that have been running for a while to make way for these new, potentially weird shows, and don't just take a pre-made idea and put it on Broadway and take away from the possible showcasing of a new talent such as like a new Jonathan Larsen *although there will never be another JL*
15. Using your own knowledge how many shows do you think are currently playing in both cities? Including On/Off Broadway too..umm around 200?

"Yorkie, you said you have seen "between 200 and 300" yet your three worst musicals have been in this season, "Good Vibrations, Brooklyn, La Cage Aux Folles Revival." While I agree that this season produced some flops, out of 200-300 shows the three worst were from this season?"
The fact that the three worst shows I have seen since I've been going to the theater is a coincidence. I've seen a lot of bad shows, but these take the cake.

8. west end best: shockheaded peter or reduced shakespeare.
9. west end worst: probably starlight express, though let's face it, i love the rollerskates. the RENT cast i saw in London was the worst cast i've ever seen, except for Maureen who was second only to idina.
10. I'd definitely see it, but not just because it transferred from London.
11. Probably.
12. Broadway because of the luster, but I lived in London for 1.5 years and it is definitely more laid back and to some that might be ideal.
13. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Broadway musicals are more intelligent and new.

8. The best show you have seen in london's West End? -

10. If a show transferred from the West End to Broadway would you be more likely to be interested and go and see it? it probably wouldnt really make me any more or less interested, unless it was something that i'd heard of and was already interested in it
11. If a show was a Broadway transfer to the West End would you be more likely to go and see it? probably, just because id have probably wanted to see it on broadway but never got the chance, so if i found myself in london and it was playing, then id take the chance to see it
12. Do you think from a performers point of view it is better to be in a musical playing in the West End or on Broadway? im not a professional performer, but i think more people know of broadway than they do the west end, so if you just say "im on broadway", more people will know what it is and what exactly it means than if its the west end.
13. What do you think, if any, are the differences between a Broadway or a West End musical? i dont really think there are many, because i think (im not totally sure about it though) that a lot of the west end shows have been on broadway and vice versa
14. Do you think an 1980's style take over a Broadway could happen again with the jukebox and film based musicals? if by jukebox you mean musicals of songs by famous bands, like mamma mia and all shook up and whatnot, then yeah
15. Using your own knowledge how many shows do you think are currently playing in both cities? um..3? the only ones i can think of are lion king, mamma mia, and the producers...

11. Probably not, because I would have seen it in New York first.
12. I'm not sure. I think Broadway, but that's probably because I'm American. Not if it were a play, though!
13. In general qualities, I think they're very similar, though individual shows can differ. I associate awful pop stars and "stunt casting" and gigantic scale more with Broadway than with the West End, but that could be ignorance.
14. I'm not quite sure what you mean exactly. I generally ignore the big spectacle shows and jukebox shows anyway so as long as there's some non-mainstream alternative, I'm good.
15. Do you mean how many shows currently have a production running on both Broadway and in the West End? In the first case, I'd say around 5 because This is How it Goes is off-Broadway, and assuming that Chitty counts even though it hasn't opened here yet. But if you just mean how many shows, I'd say around 60.

Ok, just had to ask! Maybe they seem the worst is because they are fresh in your mind?

I see a pattern forming! Not all the questions are clear, so perhaps a slight rethink of the wording might be a good idea?
Also, most of your respondents here, as to be expected, are from America. I suspect that if you had a majority of Brits, then some of the answers would be different. Particularly Question 12 which is quite partizan.
For those in America then yes 'Broadway' would be pretty well known and if you aren't into theatre and haven't been to the UK you may not have heard of the 'West End'. However, over in the UK we definitely have heard of the 'West End'. It is still an ambition, I believe, for performers here to be in a West End show, particularly a new show.
So before you complain I'm being pro-UK and anti-American, my emailed answer was that it depends on the performer and where they are based as to what their ambitions might be!
