I am selling my entire broadway cd collection on ebay and thought some people might be interested in checking it out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=120621004394&Category=307&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D1#ht_6170wt_1139 Updated On: 9/14/10 at 07:36 PM

I've sold a LOT of CDs in my day and I need to tell you: You are NEVER going to get $1,000 for 180 used CDs. Start the bidding at $200.

Wasn't aware this was a cast album.

The trouble you're going to run into with a collection this big is that any theatre fan who might be interested in used cast recordings and have this kind of money is bound to already have a good majority of these recordings, thus keeping them from spending so much to get maybe a handful of recordings that they could pick up cheaper somewhere else. I would definitely recommend breaking it up into several auctions. Probably a much better chance of unloading some of these. As it stands now, unloading this entire collection in one high priced auction is not looking very likely.
Yes I agree mostly. There is nothing rare or unusual in the collection - most of these titles can be bought used for $5 to $10.
The autographed items are possibly worth more but if you want to maximize the value, sell them as stand-alones. Beware there are a lot of autographed copies of recent hits on E-bay.
But why are you selling your whole collection? IF you have copied it into your Ipod or computer think carefully: A crash could wipe you out.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Down to $500 now, it appears.
And I can't imagine who would buy - as pointed out, there's nothing interesting/collectable in the list.
Sell 'em one-by-one on amazon or half.com.
$500 for a bunch of used CDs, some not even guaranteed to work?
Even though that comes out to under $3 per CD, you're much better off selling them separately or in smaller collections. You might even make more than $500, depending on how you price each individual item. Each is going to have a different worth.
I think the $500 price tag is definitely going to turn some people off as well.

I had a huge CD collection and this is how I sold it: I did a series of garage sales- I pulled out anything "Special" (autographed, limited edition, box sets) and put them aside. I advertised on Craig's List and said "Thousands of CD- $3 each!"
I think I made about $1700 that time.
Two weeks later I did it again, advertising "Thousands of Cds $3 each" and added "Many many rare & collectible Cds & Boxed sets- priced to sell!" I think that one brought in about $800.
A year later I did everything $2 a disc (My town limits the number of garage sales to 2 a year). I am getting ready to do the $1 a disc sale next week.
DEFINITELY advertise on Craig's list!!!
I always start my ebay auctions at .99 cents. It's a gamble, but for me it's worked 95% of the time, breaking even or making more than what I paid. My biggest loss with that method was on a ticket to see Chelsea Handler in Atlanta...the show was sold out, but she added another show the day after I posted it, so I only got about half of what I paid...
wow...rant over. =)
