Oh, for God's sake.

It's HER CAREER. She said as much as she wanted to, as much as she felt was appropriate, about why she didn't take the gig.

Maybe it was money. Maybe her agent told her the role was too old for her and she shouldn't do it yet, lest people see her as older and hesitate to cast her in young roles. Maybe she wants to be available for pilot season. Maybe she doesn't want to work on a chorus contract. Maybe maybe maybe.

Bottom line, she's not obligated to explain it any more than she's obligated to do Les Mis because it's an iconic show.

I'm sorry but the indignation in this thread about how an actor makes choices about her own career is annoying at best. Yikes.

Personally, I agree with Eden. She's too young. I'm sure people who have played her in the past might have been 28, but had I not just read that, I would think she was 21 or 22 because thats how old I personally thought she was.

And had she accepted the role, people would be sitting here complaining that she was too young, and that here voice wasn't quite right, or what ever else people could complain about.

She just said in the interview that she herself felt she was too young. Why accept a role that you don't feel you could bring something to the character, because you're not at that point in your life?

I think people are taking that response too much to heart. Let it go.

And tell me, if someone offered you more money to do a job that You liked to do anyways...would you sit there and say "Well, I guess I'll go for less money..."

It's not easy living in New York, I know I'd go for the bigger paycheck! And there is nothing wrong with that. Besides, LA has nicer weather.

elphaba, she is not obligated to explain an inconsistency in her statements, but it sure does make sound business sense to do so. She says she wanted to do the role badly, and then she said she turned it down. There is something that happened in the middle that doesn't gel. If I were her, and I didn't want to explain why I turned something down, I'd stay away from saying how much I wanted to do the role.

What parts of this thread show indignation? I'm not sure you're using the word properly.

I don't understand why people care so much.

touchme, i couldn't disagree with you more. for eden (or anyone) to disclose the reasons she didn't take her "dream job" is an action that makes absolutely no business sense whatsoever.

clearly, something about the offer didn't meet her needs. when that kind of information becomes public, it has the very real potential to make everyone involved look bad.

it's fine for you to be curious, but to rationalize your curiosity by claiming this would be a sound business decision is naive at best.

and yes, i do know what "indignation" means.

So we totally had this exact conversation in another thread BUT

I'll say this again. Whatever Eden's choice would have been..personal or business related or what not... she's certainly not too young to play Fantine. Fantine was a very young woman. Whatever she decided was up to her. Personally, I would go for Fantine over a part that I already played...and in L.A. no less but as said before, there could be a lot of reasons. Youth shouldn't be one of them though. That is all.

sally, i totally agree with you. considering the time period, fantine could easily be played by even a 22-year-old.

Why do I remember hearing that once Daphne came in for the audition, they were so blown away, any previous offers were off the table? If that's true, couldn't THAT be why she didn't take the role?

RTfan grow up. I mean searously god forbid if someone made a sex joke its not the end of the world. Your a good example of why I am convinced that the idea of god is just as stupid as scintoligy sp? If you wanna believe that a litte invisable man whom you never see is up there. Watching everthing you do every second of the day. Who might I add gave you a slip of paper telling you do do ten things and if you don't, then he will send you to a place full of fire and brimstone. But, he loves you. then thats fine by me.

Eden's an LA girl, and she knows what she wants. Namo's right - the steady gig and superior money of TV is where it's at for a lot of performers (who could blame them?!?) This decision makes perfect sense. It will certainly get her closer to her goal then doing a 62nd bus-and-truck's stop in NYC.

BroadwayGirl107, Eden had already passed on the role long before they even saw Daphne.
