Edie Adams, Actress and Singer (and Flirt With a Cigar), Dies at 81
Featured Actor Joined: 12/16/06
I adored this supremely talented lady. One of the most beautiful singing voices I've ever heard. God rest her.
As Ethel Merman sang of another Edie:
Edie was a lady,
Though her past was shady,
Edie had class
With a capital "K."
Rest in peace, Edie.

Very sorry to learn of Edie's passing. One of my fondest memories of her was her take on Marilyn Monroe on the old Ed Sullivan show. It was during Marilyn's Actor's Studio phase and Edie was priceless. Another was her rendering of "J'Attends Un Navire" during the Ernie Kovacs show. She didn't sing the lyrics, just that beautiful voice singing that fabulous melody.
RIP, Edie. You made things a lot happier for many people.

Very sad to hear this. Aside from Li'l Abner and Wonderful Town, I always loved her in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" with Sid Caesar. They were so great together. And I thought she helped give the movie a little heart.
I'm sure she did that wherever she went.
She always had a magical, luminous quality, innocent and yet so sensual. She brought everything to a higher plane, somehow. A loss for the world, indeed.
How I'll always remember her.

Thanks to all who posted video, great memories of that beautiful voice--and the cigar commercials were great too.
RIP Edie Adams.
I'm saddened to hear this....

I had just watched Broadway: The Golden Age recently and I realized that I had no idea who she was so after some YouTube research, I fell in love with her voice. It's such a shame to see an extremely beautiful and talented woman pass away although I think her turn in Lil' Abner (among other things) will keep her immortal in the musical theatre world.

She also played Ernest Borgnines wife in the famous turkey "The Oscar"
She played a blonde bimbo. The part was nothing but she made it better by playing it.

I was so glad to have seen a Music Fair production of ANYTHING GOES with Edie and her then-husband Peter Candoli. She was marvelous as Reno Sweeney.
"May flights of angels sing her to her rest."
