Anyone going to see this at Goodspeed in July?
Loved the premiere at University of Michigan a few years ago. Quirky story that is very faithful to the book. I wish the production extended into the fall when I would have a chance to see it.

Phyllis: You don't think it lends itself to musicalization? The emotional themes of change in a society, a coming of age story, traditions. Then, the statue on stage with letters physically falling off. Just think if they had the inscription engraved or cast like 99% of memorial plaques they wouldn't have a story...

True, but the whole thing about them using less letters each time one falls off seems to just lend itself to text more than it does stage, you know? But like I said, I wasn't wild about the book, so perhaps the musical improves on it. I wish it no harm or anything, it just doesn't seem like a compelling candidate for musicalization.
Also, it's odd that they've changed the title (or rather, changed the title to the letters the original title represents).
