Sad to read that Jeannie Tesori is bailing from Encores Off-Center next year. Last year was great, but I'm afraid I have zero desire to see this year's offerings: Runaways or God Bless You Mr. Rosewater.

Thank God that Rosewater is finally getting a production!

I have no attachment to either show but the jamboree concert might be enough to push me into a subscription.

ROSEWATER is a tremendously good "lost" gem, and I would wholeheartedly recommend that everyone who can go see it does so. RUNAWAYS doesn't thrill me, but it's an impotent piece, and I can understand why they're doing it.
The jamboree thing sounds like a cop-out. A very cool, fun cop-out, but one nevertheless. They couldn't have found a third show? But frankly, as long as they're doing ROSEWATER, I'll stop complaining.

Rosewater really is a tremendous score. Frankly surprised to see it run a full five perfs in that huge space, though. Planning on catching it more than once.

The jamboree thing may have come from the fact that it's Tesori's last year. I know I'll be catching all three (I still qualify under Peer to Peer, so I won't get a subscription). I have never seen Rosewater or Runaways so I am looking forward to discovering them this summer like I did with Zorba and A New Brain last year.

Good point. Weirdly, I hadn't thought of that.

Come on folks, the big question is, who should replace Tesori? We have a job to do!!

The cast of Runaways will be made up of students and Santino Fontana and Skylar Astin will star in Rosewater.
Sutton Foster and Jonathan Groff will also have a concert with Tesori on piano.

I'm pretty psyched for Rosewater. It was my first Vonnegut novel and he's an author who means a lot to me, PLUS it's a Menken and Ashman score. I've never gotten to hear it, but always wanted to since I first discovered it existed.

Are tickets on sale for any of these yet?
I'm also very excited for Rosewater!

Me! ...No, I'm kidding. But someone. Adam Guettel has something like 3 musicals in process, and he's working hard, so he's out. Andrew Lippa? Jason Robert Brown? Both are busy men, too, though. Or maybe it'll be someone who isn't a writer. It'd be cool to see someone fresh and unexpected...as long as they continue the good work Tesori has done.

I never got a P2P email about the Off Center shows and they're on general sale today. Did anybody else? Just curious if they missed me or if they just didn't send them this year.

I got one last week (on the day they went on sale). Jamboree P2P tickets went pretty fast.

We will be seeing Risewater as well. Looking forward to finally hearing the score. Wonder if it gets the reviews if it could go off Broadway possibly NWS.

I love the show dearly, but I really can't see it ever getting a major commercial production.

I listened to the OBCR of Runaways today. Definitely the most "WTF" show I've ever heard. Did anyone here see the original production? Was it any good? Or even watchable?

Loks like MJ Rodriguez will be in RUNAWAYS. I had already planed to see it but now really looking forward to it. Never saw it but bought the cast recording. I always felt I needed to see it to enjoy the music more.

Saw Runaways original production. Didn't she also do Doonesbury? I know she died relatively young.

Any word on the rest of the cast of Rosewater? It's about a month away now.

Please tell me Rosewater could get recorded. As a teen I wore out cassettes of the demo and a live and regional cast one and can still sing a lot of the score by memory. Way back there was talk of wanting to do a studio cast album so it seems a good opportunity if they want to raise any general awareness of the show (I guess some community theatres do do it, judging by some not very good YouTube clips)
