Haha I'm not saying I like the stupid show...but, you can't deny that it became a classic phenomenon.
And like I said...it depends on how you describe the best American musical.

Alright! Alright! Like I said...depends on how you define the best musical.
Let's just take that off the list...
And no, this doesn't mean I like the stupid show.

I think Grease is a legit musical. It's gotten a bad rap but there are some great songs in that show and it's a crowd pleaser.
As for best play, yeah, Doubt is pretty stellar. I don't think Laramie Project is this decade though, is it? They just had a ten year anniversary, so I think it was on the tail of the 90s.
And nobody said we're stressed out about this - just having a normal discussion.

Speaking of LaChiusa's Wild Party....I LOVE the cast recording! I can't wait to see the Lincoln archive video next year.
But I have a question...has anyone seen the show outside Broadway? Does it work?
I can't imagine it with a different cast..even, or maybe especially Mandy Patinkin, who seems PERFECT as Burrs. The verbal abuse towards Queenie in "Wild Party" or "How many Women in the world?" – his falsetto and anger just makes him so creeply crazy...It's hilariously believable. I could imagine someone else seeming a little 'try hard' in the role.
I literally am trying to work (at KFC, cringeworthy I know) and I get the "how many many many many many" stuck in my head for hours. It's hilarious. I LOVE ITTT.
It makes up for hearing him butcher basically everything he sang with Patti in their recent 'concert'-thing.

"No notable names? Since when are Idina and Kristin not names, I mean in the Broadway community anyway?"
Being a name in the theatrical community doesn't mean much when it comes to the world and popular culture at large. By "huge names" I meant not a big movie star and not a huge theater name like Bernadette Peters or Patti LuPone who many people would come out to see and who people outside of the theater community may be aware of. Idina and Kristin are much bigger names now than they were then, though I imagine Kristin was a little better-known than Idina because of her Tony win.

Posted: 12/9/09 at 12:12pmThere's still another year to go before the end of the decade. It's the millenium nonsense all over again (which started in 2001, not 2000). Math isn't THAT hard.
