This wasn't on my radar at all - has anyone listened?

This is a crazy popular show on TikTok. Your mileage is going to vary based on how much you appreciate the anime and video game musical influences. One podcast made a good point when they said "the music is definitely not AI-generated, but it's inspired by the music most commonly used to train AI models".
Personally, I like it. Some of the music can feel generic at times, but the sheer scale and ambition of the project from someone so young is really impressive.

No idea a film adaptation was in the works, but this is mega popular on social media and dozens of artists have been making animatics to the score for years. The material works really well animated.

Am I the only one thinking this is a slippery slope? It makes me think of the same “viral” fanbase that got Be More Chill to Broadway, and proceeded to watch it flop in a huge way. Of course an animated film passion project is different, but even Be More Chill had the same “oh we are announcing a film” situation, and that never got off the ground.

Slippery slope? I can't see how this would necessarily be a BAD thing, even if I'm not a huge fan of Epic itself (it's very "we have Lin-Manuel Miranda at home").
We're living in a time where the big studios and moneymakers are starting to actually snap up and develop work from absolute indie creators with grassroots followings. Look at this, and also how The Amazing Digital Circus is getting a cinematic premiere in June.

I listened to the first few songs a couple of months ago and turned it off. I’m genuinely unsure as to why this is so popular online — it’s very poor lyrically and uninteresting musically. It seems to be one for the crowd that doesn’t know musical theater very well. If they enjoy it, I’m glad; I found no value in listening.
