Does anyone know the exact date Jill left? I was at the show last Thursday, and Nili Bassman was on as Niki. Though she was good, I was hoping to catch Jill before she left.
elphie - Jill's last show was February 3.
Any chance that anyone went to Curtains last night? I'd love to hear about it. I'm really looking forward to going back and seeing Curtains again with Erin- I'm sure she'll be great in the part!
Erin did a very good job and I'm sure she's going to grow into the role in time. She got a couple of very big laughs and did a fine job with the choreography despite one little slipup (but she recovered beautifully, and for someone who's not a dancer, she did very well). And she looks great!

Thanks! I knew she would be amazing. And I know she'll only get better.
Shots of Erin Davie in Curtains are up!

...and Gerry Vichi too.
She just isn't a dancer, though. Otherwise her performance is very good. Updated On: 2/28/08 at 04:36 PM
Love those pictures! Thanks for posting.
Thanks Smaxie! Can't wait to see the show next month.
Great shot thanks...I think her dancing is wonderful
I saw Erin a week or so ago - she's not a dancer, as ShbrtAlley44 said, but she gave an adorable performance. One thing that struck me is that she doesn't look very good in the costume - the dress sits more frumpy on her than Jill, and I feel like they put a lot less makeup on her. But otherwise, she's very good.
Smaxie, have you made a trip to the Hirschfeld to see Davie in the role?

I'll be seeing this in March and I just can't wait! The pictures look great and I KNOW Erin will be amazing in this role.
Yup. I adored her. There is something delightfully off kilter about her Niki, so it's a very good match for David Hyde Pierce's odd man out character. They are unbelievably sweet together. She also got some very big laughs, including a few new places. It may be true that she's not as sharp and clean in the dancing as Jill Paice was, but "Tough Act" is tough stuff, and she hasn't been doing it for a year like most of the rest of that company. I think she's great in the role.

Boy, I'd love to be in Gerry Vichi's position right about now. Playing the exact same role in 2 shows back-to-back, and done by 9:45 in each one.
Wow she looks frumpy.
You wouldn't have a kind word for her, no matter what she looks like.

Thanks for the comments on her, Smaxie.
I have no doubt that she makes a great Niki and really I assume she'll only get better in the role. It's not like she got to do an out-of-town and preview period with the show, so it's completely understandable that she isn't entirely up-to-speed with Ashford's complex choreography for "A Tough Act to Follow." I can't wait to see her in that number as well as "The Woman's Dead," Niki gets some of the best lines in that number.
The least important aspect of Niki Harris is technically perfect dancing. Erin's gift is as a singer and actress. She's probably not completely comfortable with the dancing this early on (and remember, she was learning it at the same time she was learning APPLAUSE, so it may take her a bit longer than someone who had a "normal" rehearsal period) but when she gets there, those steps will be infused with glorious joy and subtext. That is her gift.
I look forward to seeing her in the part!
How stunning does she look in these pictures? Far from "frumpy," I'd say. Go Erin!
I find it quite admirable that she was able to do such a great job in APPLAUSE while rehearsing for her role in CURTAINS. She was off-book (unlike the leading lady) and did not disappoint with her "One Hallowe'en."
Honestly, the summer can't get here any sooner, so I can finally see her.
Totally agreed, Rath, and I know she was struggling to learn the dancing. However as of right now she looks very awkward; that's all I meant to say. I'm sure things will smooth out. She gets great laughs in unexpected places and plays the part in a delightfully quirky way.
I love quirkiness. DHP has also been described as quirky.
Quirky + quirky = Adorable!
I can't wait to see the two of them together.
